Re: Friday 31st July 2020
• Allyson Pollock is professor of public health research and policy at Queen Mary University of London and author of NHS plc: the Privatisation of Our Health Care“” That’s the immediate priority – as an absolute minimum. But more broadly, the public knows this is not a good way to run contact tracing, and it is for all of these reasons that over two-thirds of those surveyed believe local public health teams and local health services should be in charge of the contact tracing system.
The Independent Sage group has already offered a solution that Hancock could take up easily. Put local authorities, local public health teams and local health services (including GPs and NHS laboratories) back in charge of testing and tracing in the community, and give them the resources to do this properly over the coming months and years. This is the system Wales and Scotland have opted for, as has Germany. That would be a test, track and trace programme the public could have faith in. “”
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... hs-private" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So IndySage is really recommending to just scrap all those £100mns of SECRET contracts then? Well, that's not going to happen is it ?
As pointed out yesterday in Sandwell, quote last night, the public is actually paying twice for Tracing , the local improvised teams working flat out and the Serco/Sitel lot often just sitting around, never knocking on a door !

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/dark-m ... st-change/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;“” The British government has spent more than £5.5 billion of taxpayers’ money on personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Was it well spent? We have no way of knowing.
Not even a seventh of the government’s 600 PPE contracts have been published – meaning the public doesn’t know why a company was selected, what it is supposed to provide, who it is owned by, and whether it is solvent or suitably experienced.
....
Overall, public contracting in the UK is now worth an estimated £292 billion annually – one-third of the entire budget – and is one of the most strategically significant areas of government. What the coronavirus crisis shows is that we know too little about who the government pays to do what, and whether it works. “”

(cJA emphasis)North of England: local restrictions
If you live in one of the affected areas, in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, you should not:
----meet people you do not live with inside a private home or garden
----visit someone else’s home or garden even if they live outside of the affected areas
----socialise with people you do not live with in other indoor public venues – such as pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure and entertainment venues, or visitor attractions.
----You may attend these venues with people you live with...but should avoid interaction with others.
----If you run such a business, you should take steps to ensure people do not interact with people they do not live with, in line with COVID-19 secure guidance
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/north-west- ... -cannot-do" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Why are visits in gardens banned but it's okay to go to pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, etcetera as long as you avoid others?
How the hell will people running businesses know where people live?

I only found out today that in early March in part of the extended family a couple of grandparents ( 76yo...) have had Covid, and two of their three children plus four grandchildren. Haven't yet seen any figs for Longhaul Covid which is similar to post-flu viral fatigue, ME, and very very debilitating.

I was supposed to be visiting a friend in Calderdale this Sunday and am seriously confused as to why Leeds has escaped this ban on visiting while Calderdale has a far lower infection rate. It makes a nonsense of the idea this is all down to Eid. Calderdale has a tiny Muslim population, there are more Muslims across the road from me than in the entirety of Halifax and Queensbury combined. Not that it stopped that idiot Tory MP from Calder Valley blaming it on those people. It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, which comes as no surprise.gilsey wrote:My niece and her family from Edinburgh are visiting my nephew and his family in Leeds for a few days, if he lived in Bradford instead of Leeds they'd have had to turn round & go back home again.

Thor tried to help with a bit of thunder this evening but all he's managed to do is leave massive clouds that are keeping the heat in.

At least today we had Chris Whitty being bluntly honest.
Admitting that we can go this far but no further, we've reached a limit, and any further dicking about is going to make things very bad and kill even more people or just make them very ill with lifelong health consequences.
Given his previous performances I have to say that came as a bit of a welcome surprise.
