Good morning. And apologies for going AWOL - been focusing on my local history stuff...having a sub to the British Newspaper Archive takes me in all sorts of odd directions mostly by accident.
Review of UK workers' rights post-Brexit is axed in sudden U-turn

And the fact is that nobody believes you - I don't recall you saying that the EU was stopping us doing x,y,z to improve workers rights before we left.He added: “I can’t have been more clear about this on a number of occasions. I’ve said repeatedly that Brexit gives us the opportunity to have higher standards and a higher growth economy and that’s what officials in the department are 100% focused on.”
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Re: Thursday 28th January 2021
I read this in the paper edition and thought it worth sharing in the light of the current row over who should get the vaccine.
At Davos, the global elite should ensure the whole world can access Covid vaccines

What’s more, they have failed to take the steps that would give poorer countries a better chance of coping with the pandemic. A report by the Economist Intelligence Unit showed that, though people in western countries can expect to be vaccinated during 2021, many of the world’s poorest nations will not have access to Covid-19 medicines until 2023 at the earliest.

Letter to the G.
If the PM believes he has done his best, should he not be replaced by someone who can do better?

Sky posted last night.
Does anyone think that will change?
Clive Lewis gets it.

This seems so obviously true that I'm not sure why Starmer doesn't see it?What do people think Labour should be doing because if I were one of their strategists (and I had hair) I'd be tearing my hair out.
They've hoovered up all the urban liberal and remainer votes and now what? How do you appeal to someone like me while also appealing to brexit voters? I'm not sure it can be done. Brexit has laid waste to England's political landscape for a generation, Scotland is a write off as far as Labour are concerned and it's not looking too great in parts of Wales.
They're in a bit of a pickle.

It seems a lot of people are expecting "normal" politics to resume at some point fairly soon. But what if it doesn't?

A lot of people at the top of the Labour Party, you mean?

I was thinking more of people in the media, if anything. Remember the "20 points ahead" cacophony when Corbyn was Labour leader?
That was mostly them.

Re: Thursday 28th January 2021
How about England gets its own Parliament with a First Minister and the UK Parliament hotdesks between E, NI, S and W on periodic basis?

Given that England is the only bit now without a devolved government batting for its interests.

The problem with that is that the de facto "English parliament" is Westminster.

Am sick of Celts thinking of me as a Sassenach. I demand to have an English Parliament and the UK Parliament can deal with it.
