Good morning.

Every tory MP should be questioned like this.

I'm sure that a certain former contributor would have had something to say about Peter Lorimer on this day.

Good afternoon.

Looks as though the Mail - of all papers - is getting its teeth into the flat redecoration story.

I wonder if the sometimes visible rivalry between the DM and MoS might be a factor here.

There are going to be plenty of "dissident" right and left candidates in this one, I suspect. How well they will poll (pun intentional) is perhaps another matter.

Peter Lorimer's son used to live in this very house. He was a raging alcoholic who'd been disowned by his father. The last time I saw him he'd swollen up due to fluid retension as a result of chronic cirrhosis of the liver and was being rushed to hospital. I'd assumed he'd probably died but according to his dad's obituary he's very much alive. I hope he sorted himself out and they reconciled because despite being perpetually pissed he was a decent enough guy who could be a good laugh if you caught him at the right level of drunk.

Another byelection for Westminster has been confirmed - Airdrie and Shotts, likely to be on May 6th along with Hartlepool.

Safe for the SNP last time, but they won it by less than 200 votes in 2017.

It's kicking off a bit down here in the South West:

Did everyone fill their census in?

It was all going so well until it asked about my last job and I wrote 'Brian Blessed's hamster butler' and when asked to describe the job put down 'Answering door/announcing party guests with squeaks Brian understands'.

Unfortunately I've since discovered that my tomfoolery could cost me a thousand pound fine so I'm going to have to get in touch with Brian Blessed and ask him to back me up if ever anyone asks about it.

That's the spirit.

It's good to see the old tradition of burning police vans on a Sunday night being revived. Last time I saw that would have been in Newcastle in the early Nineties.

Bristol protest: Police attacked as 'Kill the Bill' demo turns violent

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-56477887

Seems to me this is dumb, counter-productive and plays entirely into the hands of their opponents.

A lot of the questions in the census that are not explicitly marked as "voluntary" still aren't actually compulsory.

So you're saying I might get away with claiming I travelled to work at Brian Blessed's house in a large wheel and spent most of my work hours asleep because I was nocturnal?

In 2011 it seems a grand total of 4 people received the full £1000 fine, which makes you wonder exactly what they did to warrant the utmost wrath of the ONS.

If the government's aim is to make people angry then yes, it plays into their hands. On the other hand, when the police proceed to arrest and charge all those involved in violent behaviour and assault as they have indicated they will - won't it kind of prove we already have the laws we need to deal with violent and disruptive behaviour and the new crime bill isn't really needed to address what the government is pretending it's needed for? Just a thought.

It plays directly into the government's hands by demonstrating that those opposing the bill are exactly the kind of people the government are portraying them to be and therefore the bill is necessary.

We learned in the 90's that violent crusty anarchists setting fire to police vans gets you precisely nowhere, or to be more precise it results in stricter laws and said crusties ultimately getting a kicking by the police.

These fools have learned nothing from centuries of protest against a stronger opponent.

I'm sure Ghandi (for all his faults) is currently at least twitching in his grave.
