Morning all.

I think this is a great idea. It's only applicable to office type jobs though, I assume. Care work, hospitality, retail, transport etc can't reduce hours in the same way and still have the same output. A four day week would mean a pay rise in these kind of jobs plus the need for more employees overall - creating the conditions for such a shift in working norms could be a bit more challenging.Four-day working week pilot launched in the UK
The trial follows the 100:80:100 model: 100 per cent of the pay for 80 per cent of the time, in exchange for 100 per cent productivity.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
You know what's incredibly depressing. The fact that it was parties that brought down Johnson/the Tories. Not all the people that have died from the DWP, not tower blocks burning down, not 100s of 1000s of people dying from COVID.
Fucking parties.
Fucking parties.
Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Yes, and if Keir Starmer can't see that and use this golden opportunity to pursue (judiciously) all, or at least some, of those matters then he's not doing his job properly.

It was ridiculed when proposed by Corbyn & McDonnell, IIRC.Willow904 wrote: ↑Tue 18 Jan, 2022 10:26 am https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/ ... uk-308577/

Pay rises for most low paid jobs would help to solve many of the country's problems.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Boris Johnson said (of the party), "Nobody told me it was against the rules". Why wasn't the obvious flaw in this line of defence pointed out?
Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Re raising productivity, take a look at this thread, about 'Innovate UK Smart' grants.
1. (cont) They could tell a compelling story about increasing research productivity enabling more trials to take place.
But they lost marks because they didn't consider: job losses due to automation and job losses from inefficient competitors losing business.

Al Capone, tax evasion.
Humans react more readily to easily relatable stuff than abstractions. This is something many on the left have failed to grasp for some time now.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, it's like jailing Al Capone for tax evasion rather than having his rivals gunned down in broad daylight.

I must admit I've never been a fan of Line of Duty but that Johnson video is very, very good.

Johnson apparently looking very miserable today.
You can often feel some sympathy even for Tories when they are widely reviled, but it this case you just love to see it.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Peter Bone was in great comic form on Newsnight last night, when asked about his constituents' views about Johnson he claimed that he hadn't had any complaints, quite the contrary in fact. He alleged that not only had his Tory constituents told him they love and worship Johnson, but his staff had polled areas that didn't usually vote Conservative and they also thought Johnson was wonderful. It was hard to tell if he was being serious or not because he seemed highly amused throughout the entire interview. Or maybe just high.
Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
But it's not like that though. Capone at least tried to hide his crimes. The Tories haven't. Everything they've done has been out in the open, but the vast majority of journalists either ignored, played down or actively dismissed all the shit they've done. It's only now, that they've been made to look a little foolish, that they've turned on him. They could have used the 100s of 1000s of Covid deaths to attack him, but they just decided not to.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Tue 18 Jan, 2022 2:13 pmAl Capone, tax evasion.

And it's not like they're now presenting Labour as a credible alternative - it's just who's going to replace Johnson and more of the same please.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
The problem is whether we like it or not millions of people in this country think Johnson has handled Covid well and won't be told otherwise.
No British Prime Minister has ever been forced out due to their own bad behaviour, Johnson is about to go down in history as the first. Would it have been better if it had been as a result of his policies? Aguably. But him being the first to get the boot for being an arrogant dick and pissing the country off will do for me.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Boris Johnson believes that everything is all about him. The Labour Party is foolish to go along with this and has to be adroit enough to use the gift it is being given to attack the Conservatives as a whole. It isn't.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Labour have tried to link other Tories in with these events, but if the media make it all about (*their* creation) BoJo they can only do so much.
Its one reason why we should hope for this saga to drag on for a while yet, more chance it will taint the wider party by association.

If it was a question of the Law being broken, should Ms Gray have ever allowed herself to be involved at all ?
Various Tories at one time have referred to her 'thing' as quasi-judicial, but that is quite a stretch ! Anyway --

When will Priti Awful and the other clowns realise that the ex-colonies are not 'Bongobongo lands' to be treated as dumping grounds for legitimate and illegally-deported refugees ?

Also notable that they've known about at least some of the parties from the beginning. Someone's decided Johnson's outlived his usefulness.refitman wrote: ↑Tue 18 Jan, 2022 5:47 pm

Excuse me while I defrost my fingers, fuck me it's cold out there.
Ok let me get this straight, you think the Labour party isn't doing enough and should be attacking the Conservatives en masse.
Fair enough.
I think keeping Johnson in place for as long as possible while making the minimum of all the right noises is the best course of action.
Both have their merits but I'm obviously right.

I don't see that our respective viewpoints are mutually exclusive. Quite the opposite, I'd say.

Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Let's remember the course of events here. Until Johnson tried to get Owen Paterson off by changing the law he was king of the fucking world. He could do anything. Then he arrogantly went too far and all of a sudden he was no longer bulletproof. Public opinion was against him and whoever wanted to assassinate him realised it was time to strike. There's no mystery about the timing, it was perfectly timed. They waited until he was vulnerable then pounced.

TCII inadvertantly began a curse yesterday which I hope I've ended here.
Re: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Let's hope so. I've been cursed too, and was ashamed when I realised that I knew all the words (not that that's especially challenging). It's cleverly and annoyingly catchy.
