Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2025
Re: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2025
I was woken at 4 BST by the loudest thunder clap I've ever heard . Two inches of rain followed .
Re: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2025
Being generally a bit short of sleep I dozed off to switch on the radio4 much later .
Some ghastly historical crimes have been exposed at something called MasterChef, but the Blitz Spirit has been invoked and the Show will Go On !
Predictable Outrage at some forriner intervening in a now-perennial UK theological debate --

Must admit I'm a little depressed, tho i quickly explain much of it to lack of sleep (easy to confuse em !) and the tiredness is compounded by regular loss of red blood cells until the next Vampire Session !
But how can that be compared to three and a half years of air raids and to say the least 'interrupted sleep' . Plus the terror.
My friends the Odesasisters are nearly always in pinup-mode, made up to the eyeballs, but Antonina manages the textile business and workshop making classy clothing and on-demand tailored uniforms ( before she was wounded of course) , and Tanya spends a lot of time talking to their frontline soldiers and being with the rehab amputees , who need a lot of support .

After the slapstick fiasco of England v Sweden we got a proper penalty shoot out tonight. All credit to the Germans, having a player sent off after 12 minutes then hanging on to win on penalties after extra time is incredible, they just never gave up and France got what they deserved.
I was going to make a smutty joke about the German defender Minge having a few hairy moments but I'll rise above it.

Have you tried masking the depression with excessive drinking? I heartily recommend it (until the next day). Seriously though look after yourself Froggy, it's all too easy to think, 'Well other people have it worse so who am I to complain?' But unless you're scavenging in a gutter in fear of your life that's always going to be the case. Maybe take a few days off to recharge away from the news and social media, talk to your family, take a long walk in the sunshine (when it reappears), dig out a good book and chill. It works for me and I'm a right miserable bastard.Frog222 wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 6:46 pm Must admit I'm a little depressed, tho i quickly explain much of it to lack of sleep (easy to confuse em !) and the tiredness is compounded by regular loss of red blood cells until the next Vampire Session !

There's a lot of bollocks talked about depression but from experience I'd say there's a couple of warning signs. One is losing your sense of humour. The other is not wanting to get out of bed for days not least because it would mean navigating through the vast array of bottles of piss you've accumulated because you couldn't even face going to the toilet. The former being the worst because it prevents you from finding the latter funny.
Take care.

Some interesting responses to Henning Wehn's apposite tweet above about Diane Abbot.
I have a couple of female acquaintances from Muslim and Jewish backgrounds, neither religious so no outward signs of anything really. One's a clinical psychologist (did her PHD at Belmarsh), the other's an event organiser for businesses and charities (hence a good source of left over champagne). So both professional women, both about the same age, both probably in about the same socio-economic bracket. Other than the fact that one's tall and the other's tiny the most obvious difference is that one's white and the other one is brown.
Guess which one learned to drive purely to get away from the racist shit she got on the bus going to work and back every day?

Welll, it's actually NOT raining
Sky -- thanks for the encouragement ! Knowing the definition of real depression perhaps that was the wrong word to use . Perhaps just a little existential angst helped by much tiredness ?
I just went outside for a very few minutes exercise, but was glad to come inside to gather breath ! Just checked my exercise thinggy and the last uninterrupted walk was the 30th of May, 27 whole minutes at the beach with most of it in the water . That was 5 days after a transfusion which helped.
Damned anemia reduces blood supply to muscles and lungs, for a start, so that puts extra pressure on the heart so quite moderate exercise working in the garden puts me close to the maximum recommended HR for my age -- of 142. I'm lucky tho, I had a very thorough checkup not long ago so in a good place for this ongoing cancer.
My biggest luck is to have plenty of interests, lots of books I haven't yet read, and stimulation from different sources ...

Boy came in earlier, chattily whining at me, not hungry because he knows how to tell me that, was he ill ?
Bloody weather, he'd just had enough of the cold wind outside , and found refuge in the linen cupboard upstairs!

Just had a lovely visit from my parents, as the stop off on a drive up to Leeds to visit friends. Went to Greggs for lunch and somehow ended up with a free coffee voucher, after my dad managed to spill his hot chocolate all over me
. Not sure how it happened, but I'm not going to turn down free coffee. Just got in from having a lovely Indian meal with them (even the kids on the next table spilling their drinks and food all over the floor didn't affect the meal). Just a lovely Sunday all round.

Remember when Labour were meant to be the lesser authoritarian party?
