Poor NickyB's head must be fair spinning with all of these unfavourable (for his purposes) polls. I'm almost tempted to pop back on to have a look ... almost!

I agree Ernst. I do. I, like you, have some respect for the concept of a Citizens Income and various other aspirations espoused by the Greens (CI has been around for a while and has been espoused / developed by a wider group than just the Greens). I don't understand why they can't be working on a 'development' plan of sorts - what needs to change first, and then sequentially, in order to create the right conditions for a Citizens Income to be introduced. That would show to a lot of people that they are thinking about delivery and how to get to it ... They need to have a five, ten, fifteen and 20 year plan. That would be honesty and competence in evidence alongside the vision.
Absolutely.
It doesn't help when you've got a load of people all voting for their own radical ideas. Parties find it hard enough when they're suggesting relatively small changes to government policy.

A nice photo opportunity for him.
Where's the money coming from, David?! Hhmmmmm?! You can't just spend spend spend on military medical personnel, new toys for war & training courses for warriors, you know.
Am preparing for bad nerves for the run-up to May, but remain appalled that a country which used to make me quite proud (of its people if not its politicians) can boast, given the strides we made in the 80s and 90s that a fifth of its population would consider voting for a bunch of racist buffoons.

This stinks to high heaven.
God damn it. This is quite enough.
OK looks like its not Christie scanner but look who sits on the board for the winning (over priced) bid.
"Conservative MP Malcolm Rifkind gets around £60,000 a year to sit on Alliance Medical’s board, according to public records."
Never been called "wise" before. Must be getting old.
Well, you've hit on what mature, responsible, practical, realistic & competent democratic governance is all about. We all can't get everything we want. It's best to have compassionate, decent people in leadership positions who've practised governance - not spoiled, overindulged, foolish men like Dave & his marauders thinking they're either good at it or born to rule. They're not. They're crap.

Lots of it is down to the ageing population. Same problem in America, and plenty of other places.

"Conservative MP Malcolm Rifkind gets around £60,000 a year to sit on Alliance Medical’s board, according to public records."
The MP is a non-executive director of Alliance Medical Group who were granted cancer scanning services in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Lancashire last December. The contract to diagnose illnesses was said to be £7m cheaper than the NHS alternative put forward by the Royal Stoke’s trust.
During Health Questions, Labour MP Jamie Reed asked Jeremy Hunt whether the Department of Health had any contact with Sir Malcolm before the contract was awarded by the government.
Mr Reed asked: “Can the secretary of state explain why the more expensive private sector bid was chosen over the better value NHS which provides these services?
“And will the Secretary of State today confirm, because this is a matter of profound public interest, that no contact took place between his department and the board of Alliance Medical, including at any point with current board member, the right honourable member for Kensington?”
The Health Secretary responded that he admired the Labour MPs "chutzpah" but said "it all behoves him to come and talk to us about privatisation.”

Not sure about that. In the Netherlands Pim Fortuyn opened the door to Geert Wilders. Only 5 years ago Wilders was banned from the UK; now we have our very own carcoat-wearing version of the man.

I've just watched C4 + 1 news. Caroline Lucas, for once, less than her usual self assured, easy going interviewee although good in her defence of Bennett. But she did guarantee that the manifesto will be fully costed and worked through when it is launched. Will be interesting to see what it contains - what they have prioritised for the next 5 years.
The interviewer, Cathy Newman, had pointed out to Lucas that the key originator of the Citizens Income has now said he thinks it is not workable ... and another way would need to be found of providing a similar safety net.

Say what you like about Farage, I don't think he'd stand in front of crowd asking them if we've got too many Pakistanis.
One thing with our electoral system is that it doesn't make it very easy for Wilders types to get a foothold without them trying to become respectable.
Apologies - this link was posted within the latest outrages - what's the catch, Chancellor George?
Shooting Labour's fox?
As in "Labour can only talk about devolution...meanwhile we're already doing it"
So fucking what. It is the NHS budget they get to spend it on - the NHS. The clue is in the name.
The Tory party think if they treat the North like shit for 4.5 years and make a few meaningless gestures just before the election that they will be loved. They are in for a shock.

You're on a roll, tonight, good point. Another excellent insight - I think you've discovered a quintessential virtue of the little 'c' conservative UK electoral system.

Well said!
I knew my head was just a bit foggy - it sounded so sane.
And it's because things are so insane, a little funding to parts of the nation sound like a miracle.

Thank you, Jesus.
I post this sincerely thankful.
I also know the polls are all over the place. Doorstep, waiting for the bus, train conversations with people please vote Labour are essential, not relying on polls.
Nonetheless, thank you, Jesus.

I'm scandalised by this, if it goes ahead Wales will have NO police helicopter coverage. None.
I see that Toady's done the ultimate click-bait article over at the DT by suggesting that Carswell is positioning himself for a leadership bid after the election. And the top-rated comment?

I won't keep it up, don't worry.
I'd like to see some nods to PR, but would make the threshold for election quite high. The BNP got Richard Barmbrook on the London Assembly with 5.2%.
Can anybody out there please explain to me the difference between an "error of judgement" and a mistake?
I don't think there is much difference (as I think you're suggesting). Although an "error of judgement" carries, to me, the implication that quite a lost of consideration went into making it. Which is a bit worse than a simple mistake. That is to say that, even after applying his great intellect, Malcolm Rifkind still got it wrong.
Edited to add -
Or even:
3 + 34 = 38 is a mistake (usually) unless you're Iain Smith or similar;
spending weeks agonising over how to decorate your living room and then opting for purple with orange stripes (and realising that, after you've done the painting, you hate it) is an error of judgement (apologies to anyone here who has opted for such a style statement).
[My bold]
Never stripes, my dear. The Horror!
But orange flowers on a purple background. Or, perhaps the other way around. I've been racking my brain over how to redecorate and don't want to simply do white, yet again. Thank you
This time, I'm gonna be stronger I'm not giving in...
