The UN Charter is supposed to be our guiding light in how to build decent societies.

Yes I agree with this, but quote this to the average person and they don't really have a clue, and it seems distant to them. But I'm not talking about inventing some thing new like the ludicrous efforts on HR. I'm talking about reaffirming exactly that, but in easy clear points and adopted as a keystone for the left, what eds misbegotten written in stone stuff should, could have been, but utterly failed to be. Not about policy but about what underpins thinking.
I've talked about this before, people do not any longer understand what right are, what they mean. You know, like freedom of speech, for instance, how far has that travelled from being a core value? I don't have to say more. To me there are absolutes you don't violate or mess with. I want a left that reaffirms that for everyone, and makes it inarguably crystal clear and accessible to all. Shows exactly where the high ground lies and helps people get there. And undoes the whole narrative of having colluded with Blair or selling off gold or whatever is a permanent stain. It isnt. And the essence of being human is in our failures and being able to move past them. In a Tory world there's no redemption, and no redeeming. We are far better than that.
