Been skiving -- some of my uni friends were studying Portuguese in the latter years of the Dictatorship, so I did know that there were three active colonial wars, and long conscription .

Some history --

Memoir of a conscript 24 months into his 3year sentence, who played an active small part in the Revolution --

How long can Burnham continue with his weak criticism of Israel and promises of weak 'sanctions' ?

Someone on bluesky calling it unbelievably tragic with a heartbreak emoji. I wouldn't go that far.

The 'People' let Jenrick down, not a dry eye, etc --
Sometimes in politics, as it is in life itself, you just get lucky. Whenever it was that Reform UK’s Robert Jenrick agreed to a three-hour stint behind the microphone as part of LBC Radio’s “guest host week”, he couldn’t possibly have known just how much the gods of fortune would shine down upon him.

Just 48 hours after the “historic” launch of “the People vs the Establishment” by-election in Clacton, what more could a man like Jenrick wish for than such a precious opportunity as this? He let out a little smile. He pushed his spectacles up on his nose and braced for 180 solid minutes of campaigning. The mic would be his sword, the mid-morning radio world his stage. “The people” would flock to the phone lines to join him, to answer Nigel’s call and take the chance “to stick two fingers up to the establishment”.
