Re: Tuesday 25th August 2026
I bought this around 1990 for 20francs in Brentano's Anglo'American bookshop in the Avenue de l'Opéra, and it IS a very clunky read !
Approaching a century later it is almost an exact description of the Occupied Territories in Ukraine and similar theatres of terror . Small-time crooks came into their own as 'para-militaries' given unlimited powers over the population ...
just like Trump's ICE and detention camps .

Re: Tuesday 25th August 2026
I have sad news. After 4 months and 6 attempts British Gas have finally got my name right and I'm no longer paying the utility bills of a James Bond actor. They did actually fix it for a couple of days a while ago but somehow it reverted back. While the saga has been amusing I had to kick up a stink last week because if the name on your account doesn't match the name on your benefit claim you lose this Winter's warm home discount (about £150 I believe) and it has to be registered by the end of August. I got an email this morning saying it had been sorted which even included an apology of sorts. So my days as a psychopathic womanising state sponsored murderer are over. Which is a relief to be honest. It's not as much fun as it looks. In fact it hasn't been much fun since the late 60's truth be told. Once you've peaked with ninjas attacking a fake volcano that's the launch site of a spaceship that eats other spaceships it's all downhill from there.

Oh wait, could that be because their founder and leader Alek Yerbury is Australian?

Straight off the bat I'm mildly perplexed. 'Heritage'? 'Lineage'? I'm not sure how many of their fascist fellow travellers would use such ambiguously woolly criteria to define their inherent Britishness.1: We demand that only people of British heritage or lineage shall be inherently entitled by birth to be British
citizens.

His Adelaide-based father refused to comment at the family’s northern suburbs home this week.
Asked if he wanted to talk about his son’s UK activities, he replied: “No I don’t. Get off my property now.”

Re: Tuesday 25th August 2026
It is indeed sad to hear of Dolly Parton's shuffling off this mortal coil.
By all accounts (that I've heard) she was one of the good ones, and let's face it 'Jolene' is one of the best songs ever written. You could play it just about anywhere, when I were a teeny goth in the late 80's it would be played at clubs nights and we'd love it.
I can't pretend I've ever known a lot about her, my earliest memories would be jokes about the size of her mammaries, and my Granddad playing her and other American country which began my life long antipathy towards that stain on human musical expression (besides Jolene obviously).
As far as I can see she brought joy to her fans and happily included all of them whether they be gay, straight, trans, robots, mole people, alien ferret enthusiasts, it didn't matter. And as such she'll be missed.
