Sky News is reporting that the New York Times is reporting that Sean Spicer has resigned. I was only half-listening, but I think it's got something to do with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Re: Friday 21st July 2017
Evening all.
Long day in the library with early 20th century directories...this is my life right now. Amazing what you find once you start to look, and also what you miss even though it's been staring you in the face.
Saw this today...kinda guessed before reading that one of the usual suspects might be involved.
Exclusive: Private university launches ‘first knowledge-based PGCE’

Questions have been asked about who's covering SEN or even primary (given all tutors seem to be secondary teachers) but no answers.

andThe course’s programme director is Robert Peal, a history teacher at the West London Free School who was seconded to the Department for Education in 2015-16 to support schools minister Nick Gibb with policy advice and speechwriting.
He said the creation of the new PGCE was in response to a “surge of enthusiasm over the past few years for knowledge-based education”.
Mr Peal told Tes the course would differ from other PGCEs in its reading list, which would focus on authors such as Daisy Christodolou, ED Hirsch, Daniel Willingham and Doug Lemov.
So that's with Lord Nash's academy chain and Theo Agnew's - cosy little world in education isn't it?It will offer about 20 places on its course via the Pimlico-London SCITT in 2017, and plans to roll out the PGCE on a wider basis in 2018 through a partnership with the Inspiration Trust academy chain.
Questions have been asked about who's covering SEN or even primary (given all tutors seem to be secondary teachers) but no answers.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

I should add that this bit caused a bit of mirth...
Very fair and balanced...
So don't bother asking for the evidence which might support such teaching methods coz we ain't doing that! You will review the evidence calling into question popular but unproductive teaching methods such as discovery-based learning, minimal teacher guidance, and the tailoring of lessons to pupils’ individual learning styles
Very fair and balanced...
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Re: Friday 21st July 2017
"In this respect, we are no different from what is happening across the Atlantic. Angus Deaton notes the tragic irony that in the year the great nobel prize winning US economist Ken Arrow dies, the Republican administration is ignoring one of his great achievements, which was to show why a simple market in healthcare will not work. The only ‘expert’ this Republican administration seems to recognise is Ayn Rand. If it is successful in replacing or sabotaging Obamacare, millions will lose coverage and thousands will die as a result. The experts (such as the CBO) who predict this are accused of inaccuracy by a White House that cannot even be bothered to check its spelling of 'inaccurately'."

45 senators support bill that makes boycotting Israel a crime
From the Independent.A bill that would criminalise boycotts against Israel has been signed by 45 US senators and 237 congressman.
The so-called “Israel Anti-Boycott Act” would impose fines of up to $250,000 (£192,000) on any US citizen “engaged in interstate or foreign commerce” who supports a boycott of Israeli goods and services.

On the face of it, that opens up all sorts - depending on the interpretation of "supports a boycott".

"Some challenge that, saying: “So if other similar countries killed 10 million people per year but we killed only one million we should be proud of that? Or if all of us kept slaves but we gave up keeping slaves 10 years earlier than everyone else, we should be proud of that?”
Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes! For government is only ever a matter of choosing between more or less flawed alternatives. If others murdered 10 million per year and we murdered only one million, then that’s nine million people the use of our system meant were not murdered. That really really matters. Of course we should be proud of that."
WTF

The murder bit - definitely not. The slavery bit is rather more nuanced.HindleA wrote:https://capx.co/should-we-teach-our-chi ... ains-past/
