Good morning.

I hope the alarming scenes in California are a wake-up call for some of the people who think they can buy their way out of vulnerability to climate change. Pity about Trump, he wouldn't hear a wake-up call if it was an air raid siren going off 2 inches from his ear.

Its all down to "wokeness" according to God Emperor Musk, though.

Hearing Liz Truss speak is a bit like walking through a morgue and hearing muffled banging, deciding it was nothing and shutting the freezer door.

Ironically if anyone needs a slap it's Liz Truss. It would be for her own good, nothing else seems to be working.

It has been suggested she is autistic, but even most on the spectrum don't have her supergalactic lack of self awareness. Sociopathy may be more like it.

Jesus motherfucking christ it is cold out there.

Even with two pairs of socks and hiking boots on my feet froze and the less said about my fingers the better after I forgot to wear gloves.

And where's this Himalayan sea salt we were promised? The pavements are icy death traps so everyone's walking along the roads.

For now it only feels like freezing here, with windchill, but doing a proper job at the weekend with non-stop negative and the top windchill at --10° .

Of course I can't find my warm and waterproof Decathlon mittens, so will spend time tomorrow hunting for them ...before I buy another pair ......

It was -6° here overnight and never got above freezing during the day, my garden was still covered in hoar frost last time I checked.

However in a completely normal turn of events it's forecast to be 14° warmer here next week.

Which is a shame. I like wearing lots of layers. It means I don't have to have a shower because the stink is contained. :D

Little wonder that she embraced the intervention of Mr Musk, who she says has made X much better since buying it in 2022. Soon after his onslaught began, she proposed a new national inquiry into the grooming gangs; she brought a vote (though doomed by Labour’s huge majority) in Parliament on January 8th.

Sir Keir was baffled: had her party not been in power for 14 years, while reports into the abuse gathered dust? Why was she tweeting about it now? Yet, wrote Mr Goldhaber, the internet would erode notions of time, because unlike musty books which immediately betray their age, pixelated text is continually refreshed. Interneticus would live in a “space devoid of chronological ordering…an ever-changing now”. And so the court judgments of over a decade ago pinging round X seem as urgent as if they had been written yesterday

Arrived at 8.30, car parks full , football pitches floodlit and busy, huge gyms all lit up and water polo-ists practicing at the aquacentre .

Spoilt !

Meanwhile BBC overnight forecast here says it could drop to -11°.

I've currently got the free month of Amazon prime video and a friend recommended 'Bosch', it's about a grizzled, grumpy LAPD detective who doesn't like to play by the rules. It's great and highly addictive. I'm on season 6 already so have basically spent a week vicariously inhabiting Los Angeles, so it's kinda weird seeing the place on fire. I think I saw his house burn down on the news.

Bosch is a lot of fun. You should have a look at Reacher.
