Ugh . Gaza was one of the factors influencing the recent US and UK votes and it and the influence of the Israel lobbies ain't going away .
It very nearly scuppered Wes for a start !
Straight-talking Wes Streeting is happy to ruffle feathers
The health secretary has divided opinions within Labour: some want him to lead the party, others think his characteristic jibes have been immature
You'll have to read his 'jokes' yourselves, here's the next bit, on the NHS --
"" The role of health secretary is also a particularly precarious one. Last week Starmer announced a series of explicit targets as part of his “plan for change”, including reducing waiting lists for routine treatment. A few days later Streeting told the NHS to put “patients ahead of targets” amid concerns about the forthcoming winter crisis. Allies said that he was referring to targets for accident and emergency waiting times rather than the target for routine treatment.
Within the Department of Health, officials who welcomed Streeting’s sense of direction when he arrived, have now started grumbling. Some are frustrated that he will not confront the trade-offs they see as inherent in the government’s decision to prioritise routine waiting lists and is avoiding difficult decisions, a criticism also being made by health service leaders.
He has been telling the NHS to focus on “reform” to get more out of its budget, but officials say he is unable to give specifics. A ten-year reform plan, now pushed back until May, is seen as being pulled in different directions by advisers who cannot agree on what works.
Streeting’s allies say that the process of reform has already started, with an announcement on league tables and incentives, and that he will set out a comprehensive plan next year.
Streeting enjoys a fight. Within the department he likes officials with opposing views to make their arguments stridently rather than coming to him with an agreed consensus. He views politics as a “battle of ideas, not personalities”. Whether colleagues agree will go a long way to deciding his future. ""

Oh dear ...
My soon to be neighbour is waiting for his retirement to come here permanently, so is still in the building trade in the next county, carpentering everything except new builds . He's not affected ,but all over France well-established big builders are laying off hundreds, going to the wall ... for lack of demand.
The way things are going RR might aim to be the 'slowest-shrinking' economy , at least in Europe !

The replies to the cartoon point out that UK is short of building workers, well there are a few thousand recently unemployed here! Good thing you have Free Movement.... not!>) over Starmer's dead body .

Out with a mate strolling around windy Yorkshire before eating good food, drinking good wine, then watching United hilariously mug city.
Best day I've had in ages.
Has anyone seen Gilsey since the relaunch?

Yeah, the football was ace.
Though "mug" is a bit harsh, United were the better team throughout. When was that last the case at their place, even when they managed to win?
And one win in the last eleven matches for The Greatest Manager Ever (TM)

I thought a draw would have been a fair result to be honest but was far from complaining when Diallo scored. I watched it with a mate along with another friend of ours and both agreed United looked better than either of them had seen since Ferguson left. I like this Amorim guy, despite everyone saying we didn't have the players to play three at the back we look properly organised for the first time in years.

Amorim has a good idea of what he wants, but unlike EtH he isn't rigidly inflexible about it.

Internationally sanctioned massacres are happening, people are being abused because they don't feel comfortable in their own bodies, women's reproductive rights are being eroded. The disabled and the sick are being scapegoated while immigrants are being attacked and burnt out of their meagre homes.
And we wonder why people are quiet when Starmer does fuck all about it, has fuck all to say about any of it, just carries on as if everything were normal, while he makes deals with the Saudis.
