Look, just because austerity hasn't worked before, doesn't mean it won't work now 🤪

Forget Reeves, this is the second bit of refit's post above --

"""Jaws drop as the administration’s chief enforcer, the world’s richest man, informs the terminally credulous Joe Rogan that “the fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy.”

How, people reasonably ask, did it come to this?

At the superficial level, as Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has eloquently explained, we’re witnessing a putsch by a billionaire class that now views democracy merely as an impediment to its further accrual of wealth and power. Collectively, the ultra-wealthy have looked at democratic institutions and concluded "one of us has gotta go, and it's not gonna be me."

But how exactly did Silicon Valley billionaires, the online far-right, Christian Nationalists, oil tycoons and libertarians all end up reading from the same page? According to Quinn Slobodian, a professor of international history at Boston University, the answer lies within the mainstream ideology that has, since the 1970s, been reshaping Western governments and the global economy: the school of neoliberalism. I'll be giving QT a miss tonight, there's 3 right wingers on including Fraser Nelson who propagandised for the disability benefit cuts and I really can't face having to sit and listen to his shit. In fact I should say 4 right wingers because Steve Reed will be defending those cuts for Labour.

So yeah I'm not putting myself through that.

Plus Scotland have a Nations League play off this evening which will hopefully be a more enjoyable viewing experience (though probably not).

Well that cheered me up. Scotland get a ludicrous penalty after Scott McTominay fouls a defender, the Greeks pummel us for the entire second half, and we come away with a victory. Hurrah!

This is actually beginning to get interesting. I realise I keep banging on about these disability benefit cuts but the reaction has been fascinating. Apart from an ever shrinking puddle of ardent Starmerites and the Telegraph nobody seems happy and there's genuine anger from left and right. Hodges might be a prick but to give him his due he understands the system and realised pretty quickly what the consequences were going to be (which is more than can be said for some purporting to be on the left) .

What isn't helping however is some of those who initially welcomed Starmer (I was one of them much to my eternal regret) but who've come out against the cuts are getting horrendous abuse from elements of the left online. The likes of Otto English and Supertanski for example. The latter of whom has had to protect her posts on Twitter it's been so bad.

What the fuck is that supposed to achieve? Are people not allowed to alter their views as circumstances change? How does being a cunt to people who've shown a willingness to criticise this government help in any way? In fact why do these dickheads not go to the Scope forum and abuse all the disabled folk there who voted for Starmer's Labour in the vain hope for something better? Because they're no different. Go on, do it you Spartist pricks and see how you get on. Yeah we all knew Starmer and those around him weren't to be trusted but it was either him or the Tories after Corbyn led Labour to a historic defeat. It was that simple. Unless you were in a safe Labour constituency and had the luxury to vote with your conscience there was no choice.

So by all means you fine warriors for socialism, have at it, attack and abuse the heretics, tell them I told you so, but don't pretend to be doing it on behalf of me or anyone like me who are going to suffer because of these cuts, because if I met you in real life I'd punch you square in the fucking face you stupid, self centred cunts.

(Apologies for the extra sweariness, it's made me quite angry).

On that at least, I agree with you. Though this rather strange intolerance towards people who change their minds isn't confined to the hard left tbf.

Shame you didn't do the QT review tonight, it might have been (even) more interesting than usual.

Shame you haven’t had the decency to apologise.
