This is the most helpful thing I've read on the Supreme Court decision yesterday.

The supreme court didn’t rule on the definition of ‘a woman’ – this is what its judgment does mean

I mean for those of us who regard it to be a complex issue requiring understanding and empathy for all involved the repulsive behaviour we're seeing from the likes of Rowling is hard to stomach. She's a grown, allegedly intelligent woman for fucks sake. Yet here she is brainlessly gloating over the removal of others rights after supporting the policies of a man responsible for woman's right's being lost in the US in an instant. What a fucking moron. Who does she think will be next if this tide of regression continues?

Given all the shit that's going on at the moment thank you Man Utd for making me happy, miserable, then ecstatic by being good, awful, then ridiculous.

One of the most preposterous games of football I've ever seen.

Anyway getting back to the trans rights ruling and the behaviour of people like Rowling.

I know I haven't exactly covered myself with glory here when it comes to the subject over the years and I'm not going to deny that was almost entirely down to a personal experience which clouded my judgement (trans people can be arseholes too), but surely it's up to any reasonable adult to try to see past their own negative experiences and look at the subject as rationally and fairly as they can.

Which is really fucking difficult when both sides have entirely legitimate cases to make so they're both right.

What's been most distressing is both sides have seen this as a zero sum game with no opportunity for any form of compromise, and while I can understand trans people trying to fight the same kind of campaign as the gay community in the Eighties, what's unforgivable are women's rights groups allying themselves with blatant racists and misogynists. The kind of people their mothers would have spat on in the Seventies. A time when feminists writers like Ursula K Le Guin were exploring sex and gender in ways that make Rowling's stupid wizard books look like the scribblings of a childish hack.

Judging people by the friends (or allies) they keep seems fair enough to me, and while I've done my best to sit on the fence on this issue I feel like I'm toppling to one side and it isn't the one with a fat orange toad enjoying a cigar with an idiot woman too stupid to realise he wants to eat her next.
