Thanks for that gilsey !
Consider how much time and money is spent taking clothes to a laundrette if you canβt afford a washing machine, or taking a car for repairs if you can only afford an old banger with far too many miles on the clock. Those most affected by food poverty end up spending more and shopping more often through lacking the finances to save money by bulk buying. Itβs easy to save money when you are rich. Poverty is both expensive and time consuming.

I restrained myself from reading and probably commenting on the original SKS letter effort in the Times, and saved myself some Life !
Moral Blackmail is such an elementary no-no , but the underdeveloped mind still does it --
EX "" Don't demonstrate against the government because it'll hurt the feelings of a whole community of people one of whom has just been murdered by a nutter . """
A pathetic clutching at straws by a govt incapable of reversing a stupid decision .
Ukraine reacted far more swiftly to a similar stupid act, the 'Cardboard Revolution' of students and oldies holding up their placards having swift results !

I've often wondered what it must be like to be right wing in a world where most of the books, music, films, plays, artworks are created by people who think you're a dick.
Take Musk naming his rockets after the ships in Iain M Banks Culture novels. In Banks' novels the Culture is what could best be described as a spacefaring socialist genderfluid utopia. Loathing for the likes of Musk permeates the very fibre of every one of the books. Yet somehow, like Badenoch with Pratchett, Musk has somehow managed to filter it all out. Is it some kind of mental self defence mechanism they develop as they grow up? Or is it simply a result of the shallowness and lack of self reflection they both so obviously exhibit? All I do know as a fan of Science Fiction myself is that it's a genre with no lack of right wing writers historically or currently so I've read quite a few of them. Did I realise they thought I was a dick? Yes, quite obviously. Most recent would probably have been Dan Simmons who started out clever and sane then went full neocon Islamophobe after 9/11 and is still at it. His last one I read had killer robot creatures infesting a ruined Earth which turned out to have been created by Muslims to kill Jews, then to add a cherry on top the Muslims were also planning to destroy the entire planet with black hole missiles from a submarine rather than let anyone else have it if they were defeated. Sounds awful doesn't it? Juvenile garbage from a grown man who began his career as one of the few writing sci-fi with genuine literary merit. And maybe that's why Musk and Badenoch don't cite right wing writers, or musicians, or actors, or comedians, or artists. Because they're all so fucking bad.

Anyway I can mostly breathe through my nose again and the sinus pain has mercifully abated. It's like there's a target, a point of pain, on your forehead moving around, impossible to ignore. All you care about is it not moving into one of your eyes because that's when the real fun begins.
Mind you I've never been discovered broken on the floor by the police and had to spend weeks in hospital getting fixed so perspective and all that.
