Last I heard DJT was going to forcefully disarm Hamas, somehow . Wiser heads commenting last week noted that the devil would be in the detail ...




The two G frontpage articles on the respective prison conditions of jews and palestinians are revealing . Israel's are very very like those of Russia, as attested by their own NGO's ...

Behr on Macron and Starmer, the frog first --

He dissolved the national assembly last summer (2024) because he imagined fresh elections would focus moderate French minds on the threat posed by the far-right National Rally (RN), which had recently triumphed in European elections. He was right, up to a point. Millions of voters did mobilise to deny RN a majority, but to the benefit of leftwing parties that despise the president.

Macron responded by trying to form governments from a depleted pool of loyal centrists, in denial of parliamentary arithmetic and defiance of the convention that presidents name prime ministers with some deference to the will of the electorate.

The post 7/10 Gaza poison had already infected FR politics , where in 2024 those lefties not er approving of mass murder (I avoid the G word) were accused in the Assembly of being antisemites and 'collabos' . Uncorrected by the Speaker ... so that added to the existing left/right differences ...

but nevertheless an assortment of compromising lefties plus the centrist right DID put the LePen mob in their place, to be rewarded by Macron betraying the whole spectrum of lefties . Perhaps it was impossible to divide the Socialists and Greenies from their anti-LePen allies the Mélenchonite LFI, but I don't believe any attempt was made ???

Behr is far too kind to both men, and misses the plot --

Macron, as shown above, snubbed the reasonable Left, while Starmer took their votes and then outright betrayed them, sniffing out any progressives and sidelining them particularly in his recent reshuffle .

The debate on how much Kamala Harris's support for Netanyahu's war lost her the election is similar to how Labour showed themselves to be complete weasels on that subject, subservience to Israel plus an extraordinary hatred of the 'left' weakening their electoral base thus opening the door to just being one of a collection of other minority parties opposing Reform ...
