I did wonder , when Starmer was spouting on and on about the AI magic solution to growth , if only we could grovel enough to get the $billions to build data centres all over ... and we'd GROW faster than our competitors, because they er hadn't heard of AI ...

Fucked my lower back but went to a gig anyway despite the ticket only being a tenner. Ibuprofen and booze saw me through. Got a taxi back with a driver who was originally from Pakistan who was probably one of the nicest and most interesting people I've spoken to in ages. He was such a pleasure to talk to we ended up missing a couple of turns and got a bit lost. His father was a member of a leftist group in the Eighties and was murdered by the police under Zia-ul-Haq.
I've had to look this stuff up since getting home because I'm afraid my ignorance was profound as he was telling me these things.
Half of this guy's family was killed in political violence before he fled to the UK with his wife. What can you say to that? He said to me that the world was not in a good place at the moment, this country was not in a good place, it was best to keep your head down. Put up with the shit from drunken racists as you drive them home, wait for it all to blow over. I disagreed.
Easy for me to say though isn't it? Or any of us? Having never experienced such things.
Anyway he tried to insist on taking a fiver off the fare because we'd taken a roundabout route due to our blathering but I was having none of it.
