Afternoon !

OK, this was yesterday ...

Apart from the outright lie "never attacked anyone in its entire history " , see Poland on the 19th of September 1939 as just one example of many !

The other point about an invasion not making sense is what convinced so many ( including the French and German intelligence services !! ) that it would just not happen .

Good read from Shaun Walker who was there --

A war foretold:
how the CIA and MI6 got hold of Putin’s Ukraine plans and why nobody believed them

Labour minister falsely linked journalists to ‘pro-Kremlin’ network in emails to GCHQ
Exclusive: Josh Simons pressed intelligence officials to investigate reporters, in emails described as ‘McCarthyite smear’

Henry Dyer and Dan Sabbagh Fri 20 Feb 2026 09.00 GMT
In his emails with the intelligence officials, GCHQ, Simons also alleged that Holden, who is a member of the National Union of Journalists, was “part of a far-left network … which disseminates pro-Russian propaganda”.

Holden told the Guardian the claims were absurd, saying he and his colleagues had “faced legal and extra-legal threats” as a result of their investigations into Russian oligarchs. He added: “ it shows just how scared Labour Together were about my investigations into what really mattered: the deeply suspect circumstances around the failure to declare £730k in donations in violation of the law.”

Holden’s partner, Jessica Murray, said she was a “private person” and felt “deeply violated and vulnerable” after learning of the efforts to find where she, Holden and their young family lived. “To then connect it to false allegations about Russian criminality, which are then relayed to the security services, is disturbing, creepy and deplorable,” she said.

Getting desperate --

Simons appears to have been undeterred. In the following days, Labour Together and its representatives are understood to have briefed national newspapers – including the Guardian – with allegations about Holden, hacked material and Russia.

((No mention by the G journos of Pippa Crerar actually preparing a story using the fake allegations ......))

At the time, Holden was approached for comment. None of the allegations Labour Together was circulating about him were published by any news organisation. Holden recently showed the Guardian his source materials, which indicate the story was based on files leaked from the Labour party by whistleblowers.

then, a little after midday Saturday , more came out about Labour Together's desperation ....

Labour minister faces calls to be sacked over false claims against journalists
Guardian investigation showed Josh Simons falsely linked journalists to ‘pro-Kremlin’ network in emails to GCHQ

Dan Sabbagh and Henry Dyer Sat 21 Feb 2026 13.38 GMT

The Times --
""According to leaked emails, the report began as an exercise to examine journalists and left-wing activists who Labour Together feared were investigating its political role and finances. A subsequent contract between the parties said Apco would examine the “backgrounds and motivations” of the journalists behind the story. They included Pogrund, Yorke and Paul Holden, a South African reporter who supplied emails to this newspaper. ""
Lying Simons said last week --

"" “Apco were asked to look into a suspected illegal hack, which had nothing to do with UK journalists at Sunday Times, Guardian or any other brilliant UK newspaper.”

I checked my sister's i-paper, nothing there, but the Times Torygraph and Guardian are all going after the unpleasant Josh Simons :-)

I wrote a book on Robert, who some – including former Israeli intelligence officer Ari Ben-Menashe – have alleged was a Mossad spy. When an MP asked about this claim in the House of Commons in 1991, Robert dismissed it as “ludicrous”. But the question was revived after his death, when he was given what was close to a state funeral in Israel.

Aside from the paedophilia, Epstein operated much like Ghislaine’s father, a megalomaniac who I understand treated his wife and children, except for Ghislaine, with disdain and cruelty.

Both men had private planes and numerous passports to enable them to travel freely across the globe. Both used sex to compromise and exploit powerful men. Robert hired eastern European prostitutes to entertain senior US politicians, I was told, while Epstein forced girls to have sex with high-ranking politicians, financiers, celebrities and scientists.

Sky asked the other day if we were enjoying the Winter Olympics. Yes, but I enjoyed it a lot more when I could watch it on Eurosport, or even Discovery+ online. The BBC's studio chat when there's actual sport going on is maddening. Unlike sky, I would have liked to see more ice skating.

@ sky, good luck with the accommodation search.

I'm moving house a week on Wednesday, if the solicitors finally manage to get their acts together, so may be here even less than usual that week.

Turns out you can get Discovery+ free for a week before having to pay which I only learned today after having a moan about the BBC coverage on Reddit. Full coverage of all events apparently, which is now useless knowledge.

Thanks Gilsey, I've got two places to look at this week, the first on Tuesday is at the bottom of my friend's street. It looks like a front room that's been converted into a 'studio flat' by adding a cooker, fridge freezer and the worlds smallest bathroom. They want £750 a month for it. To be honest I'm only going to go because the ladies at the estate agents have been so nice to me over the phone and I'm curious to find out if the photos are true to life or some weird optical illusion has occurred because nobody could survive in a place so small.

Hope you're own move goes smoothly.*

*(It never does but all the best anyway).
