Good morning.

Pat McFadden certainly isn't the most charismatic Labour spokesperson but imo the line he took on Newsnight last night could be built on, don't know if RR used it.

It seems almost everyone knows more about economics than SKS, from that report about EdM giving him lessons.
“We’d get Britain’s economy firing on all cylinders”, Reeves declared. Referencing the last Labour government, she pointed out that growth averaged 2.3 per cent per year (even including the global financial crash), compared with 1.8 per cent for the Conservatives until 2019 (excluding the last two years that include the pandemic).
Reeves covered a few obvious attack lines, it was McFadden steadfastly sticking to one that I found interesting.

Neither BBC and C4 News mentioned the B-word last night, not surprising for the BBC. Maybe C4 will be braver today.

Tbf its maybe not needed for a party leader to be an economic expert, as long as they are strong in other things.

(people may apply that latter consideration to the present Labour incumbent as they wish)

Budget 2021: IFS predicts ‘real pain’ for low-income households

Sussex professor resigns after transgender rights row

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/ ... rights-row
Kathleen Stock, the philosophy professor at the centre of a row over her views on gender identification and transgender rights, has announced her resignation from the University of Sussex.
Congratulations to all those involved in hounding a philosophy professor out of her job for having opinions they didn't agree with. A great victory for all of us who like to think of ourselves as enlightened progressive liberals. I couldn't be more proud. Outstanding.

Who shall we turn on next? I know, there's an old fellah down the road who we all know's a bit queer and wears dresses, let's go and spray 'paedo' on his house and threaten to kick the shit out of him. Oh no wait, I got a bit mixed up there, that's a completely different kind of mob. Apparently.

Reading between the lines it seems clear she reached an agreement with the university, so its not as simple as being "hounded out".

Thank you. It was an interesting read.

Anyone who genuinely believes Kathleen Stock is an apologist for the genocide of transsexuals is out of their mind, and It's this kind of extremist hyperbole that's led to the toxic hellhole we currently find ourselves in.

I'm not saying she hasn't made mistakes and demonstrated some muddled thinking, in fact I'm not here to defend her at all, but the way to deal with that isn't a concerted campaign of abuse and intimidation so awful the police say she's not safe to back to her job.

That's mob justice and we all know it's wrong.

I just wish someone could wave a magic wand and have all involved come to their senses and calm the fuck down because the toxic state of affairs that currently exists is absolutely appalling.

She is also a trustee of LGB Alliance, who's entire thing is campaigning against trans people. She was also an early signature of a declaration that wans the elimination of gender identity (https://www.womensdeclaration.com/en/de ... s-summary/). It's understandable why some trans students might be uncomfortable with her.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -microwork
With the realisation that machines are immune to viruses and social distancing, we have seen the return of an apocalyptic consensus: according to one recent prediction, as many as half of all work tasks are at risk of automation by 2025. Such gloomy forecasts conjure a world where robots do all the work and humans are consigned to history’s dustbin.
Many years ago I lamely demanded to see the manager at a Tesco in the early days when self checkout machines started replacing jobs. I was seething like no-ones business, but suffice it to say, my righteous indignation didn't get us anywhere.

According to the link you provided she explicitly stated that she did not want the elimination of gender identity.

It's entirely understandable why some trans students were uncomfortable with her but the way to deal with that is surely not to behave in a way that entrenches the views of those you wish to persuade.

Miatta Fahnbulleh has been the best panellist on Question Time. Bridget Phillipson was charged, in the main, with sticking to a script which involved not rocking the boat. In fact, even the Nat West bloke was better than she was.

Ok this is going to be my final post on the topic of (trans)gender politics and I shall never speak of it again.

In the mid 2000's a friend of mine ran a Burlesque club for a few years, it was fabulous, as magnificent a melange of diverse sexuality as you could find anywhere. Anyone was welcome to perform (as long as they were any good), even animals. It was glorious and utterly, defiantly inclusive.

Now the burlesque scene has been polluted by the same toxic sludge that's contaminated everything else. What once was a bastion of inclusivity and fun is now a shadow of its former self. Mainly, according to my friend, as a result of gender politics.

I find that profoundly depressing. That people are being forced further apart rather than celebrating their diversity together and sticking a middle finger up to the fuckers in society at large who would like to put them down.

Anyway that's the last I have to say on the matter.

And I hope Refitman understands I've been coming at this subject from a good place.

I'd never seen Bridget Phillipson before. Is she a solid object? Her expression remained exactly the same for an hour. It was most disconcerting.

The Nat West bloke seemed like your nice grandad, a kind of lucid Vince Cable (remember him?) but yeah Miatta Fahnbulleh was the clear winner.

The 'funtreprenuer' woman (seriously she has that on her own Twitter profile) was all over the place, she went from, 'Yeah let everyone die so I can make money,' to, 'Oh no evil water companies are pumping shit into the sea and profiting from it.'

Great minds think alike, I'm currently working on some Bridget Phillipson scrimshaw, though accidentaly with a slip of the knife I've made her smile a bit giving her a human expression so I'm going to have to throw this whale tooth away.

(There's a mysterious Chinese restaurant called Le Jardin near the end of my road. It's never open, but usually has a few people sitting at the tables anyway. Strange name for a Chinese restaurant (unless it's Vietnemese?) and a very strange business model.)
