On the subject of nothing new under the sun, I watched a bit of Uprising last night, about the New Cross fire. A funeral for 2 of the dead had to be accompanied by police because of the racist abuse the families were getting.

Imo social media doesn't encourage racism, it just allows more people to see it. In the long term that might be helpful.

Am I completely unstable? You've never seen a more unstable person than I am.

I don't think the govt are too unhappy about staff shortages, people who should know better blaming the 'pingdemic' distracts from both Brexit and the out-of-control virus.
They can go on the media and parrot glib phrases about the need to self-isolate while giggling behind their hands.

Yes, this idea that social media has "made things worse" is classic cart before the horse stuff.

People don't react well to stuff like empty shelves, though.

Good afternoon.

I see that tedious bore Robin Aitken has written yet another BBC-bashing article for the telegraph - this one complaining that they're not playting ball with his programme about BBC bias. And who can blame them.

But wait.

In the sub-heading for the article...
My challenge to the BBC – if you’re not biased, face your critics and prove it
A former BBC journalist asked the Corporation to take part in a film about impartiality. Its silence speaks volumes
So when exactly was he a BBC journalist?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/ ... e_bbc.html

Former BBC correspondent Robin Aitken has written a stimulating book on his experiences of working in the BBC - "Can we trust the BBC?" Last night I appeared in debate with him at the ICA in London.

So he'd left even before 2007!

For how long can he get away with the "former BBC journalist" I wonder?
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

For some time I expect, given that we have "lifelong Labour supporters" who last actually voted for them when Harold Wilson was leader :)

Finally. There's no point sticking to traditional rules and precedents when the other side routinely ignore them.

Police officers in England and Wales furious at pay freeze after months on frontline of Covid crisis

Rank-and-file police officers have overwhelmingly supported a vote of no confidence in the home secretary, Priti Patel, the first such move in more than a decade.

In a scathing announcement, the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), which represents 130,000 officers, said Patel and the government “could not be trusted” and warned “warm words were not enough”." (Guardian)

I had hoped that this would have been about more than pay .
So they're happy to be the repressive arm of this particular Tory state .

Its always been a bit silly that you can't accuse another member of "falsehoods" in parliament.
