Good morning.

Phil BC with a good rant, he's not wrong, especially about Javid being the worst person at the worst time.
Responsibility is yours and yours alone, be it health, wellbeing, or how you make your living. Pushing down the popular perception of state responsibility is another conscious effort at restricting the political horizon, making any project of social reform, even relatively meagre ones appear out of bounds.

For me, the most infuriating thing about govt refusing to make masks compulsory is that, even if it's only marginally effective against covid, it works excellently against colds and flu.

It's getting very hard to deny that they want the NHS to fail, and in a hurry.

Does he mention Ayn Rand?

Any right wing politician expressing a liking for her is a massive, *massive* red flag.

How very hilarious.

Mind you, the right of the party don't help themselves when they come out with stuff such as the latest nonsense re Corbyn.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker, criticised Sajid Javid, the health secretary, for making a statement about how MPs should be wearing masks at his news conference last night, not in the Commons.

As my colleague Jessica Elgot reports, Hoyle seems to have missed the point that Javid only made this comment in response to a question from the FT’s Sebastian Payne. (Politics Live, Guardian)
Lindsay Hoyle is a prat. So many battlefronts to choose from, and he chooses a non-existent one.

Lots of people wanted a change from Bercow, the drawbacks of that are now becoming more apparent though.

UK Covid live: Boris Johnson says no need to move to plan B in England as cases not rising beyond expectations (Politics Live, Guardian)
By that logic, if the "expectations" were to be upped to, say, 5,000 per day, then doing nothing when cases reach that level would be fine.

So anyone claiming we're not seeing the same level of deaths as we saw last year is inadvertantly telling the truth. The level is actually higher.

Which shocked me I have to admit.

Yes I've noticed this too. We expect an additional 100 people a day to die as we remove these restrictions and that's happening so we were right!

Anti-vaxx protesters have filmed themselves handing bogus legal papers to staff at an Essex hospital, accusing them of “crimes against humanity” for their work tackling Covid-19.

It's difficult to tolerate this much longer. People spitting on, abusing or threatening NHS staff should just be arrested on the spot. This really has got to stop. Are the Tories thinking of arming hospital staff and teachers (as well as themselves?

Jay Rayner was right, the spicy beef dumplings were delicious, as was everything else, and now I feel like I may explode.

Anyway we're in Bonnie Scotland tonight for QT so the quality of debate will, like everything else in Scotland, be infinitely superior to its shabby counterpart South of the border.

The earliest references to a dish recognisably similar to haggis come from England.

A likely story, nobody has seen a wild haggis in England for centuries.

Well despite my bold prediction of Scottish superiority QT was actually a near total waste of time with only Brian Cox (the actor) coming out of it with any distinction. And that was mostly because he said the words 'shit' and 'scunnered'.

It also once again demonstrated Labour's dismal performance North of the border. Anas Sarwar had one of the most smug, self satisfied, little shits in the Tory party sat along from him in Andrew 'six chip twat' Bowie. Yet for some inexplicable reason he completely ignored him and spent the entire programme attacking Kate Forbes of the SNP. Labour in Scotland are a unionist party, they are fighting for votes with the Tories and the Liberal Democrats, yet watching Anas tonight you'd think he and Andrew Bowie were allies. It's baffling. I mean by all means have a go at the SNP for their failures (of which there are many) but it was utterly bizarre to see a Labour politician share a stage with a Tory and appear to be on the same side, or at least be part of the same pack.

I would suggest that haggis Isobel's appeal is fairly idiosyncratic.
