So it appears that yesterday Starmer said he intends to scrap the Lords - despite all the confident pronouncements in previous days that he would not.
Maybe let's not believe everything that appears in the papers, eh?

It kept glitching when I last visited it just before making that post. Maybe the rush of traffic after that football result made it keel over.

So, Sarah Champion's a fucking idiot. Not only is this fundamentally unworkable, any business that has people working from home, will have their employees use one, to keep data secure.
We would be joining Belarus, China, Iraq, N Korea, Oman, Russia and UAE. Illustrious company

Wtf? The only way to stop teenagers using VPNs would be to ban them and good luck with that. Even China hasn't managed it.

It gets proposed every few years, then is ruled out as impractical each time - so I'm not losing any sleep over it right now.

No, but it makes Labour look like blithering idiots, to even propose it.

Heh, Portugal drop Ronaldo and replace him with a young kid who proceeds to score a hat-trick on his debut while the team goes from playing turgid dross to the most devastatingly brilliant football of the tournament.
You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh, especially United supporters.

Does anyone know what's happened to Carol Vorderman? She used to be a proper full on Tory, I remember her appearing on Question Time and being absolutely vile. Now she's going after Michelle Mone like a seagull after your chips. Has she had a political damascene conversion or is it personal I wonder?

Evening.
Had a minor panic earlier today when 'er indoors went for a blood test. Phone rings..."Oh, this is the palliative care nurse...can I speak to Mrs ROT?"
Anyway, 'er indoors gets back and tell her about the phone call..."So, is there something you're not telling me?"
"No, it's just that they are the experts in pain relief"
Phew.

It really does while also reminding those of us of a liberal temperament that Labour's authoritarian streak is still in rude health.
We all want kids protected from the worst of the internet and I'd like to think this idiotic proposal is a result of viewing things through that narrow lens but Labour's record on civil liberties is not one that fills me with confidence.

Labour’s frontbench confirmed to The Independent on Tuesday that it was supporting Ms Champion's amendment. Speaking for the opposition in the Commons on Monday afternoon Shadow digital minister Alex Davies-Jones said the unamended bill had "gaps" that needed closing.
"I was pleased to see that my honourable friend the member for Rotherham (Sarah Champion) had tabled new clause 54, which asks the Government to formally consider the impact that the use of virtual private networks will have on Ofcom’s ability to enforce its powers," she said.
"This touches on the issue of future-proofing, which Labour has raised repeatedly in debates on the Bill."

Yeah, must admit I have noticed a bit of a change with her as well.Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Tue 06 Dec, 2022 9:52 pm Does anyone know what's happened to Carol Vorderman? To put it into perspective, she was one of the few celebs willing to put their head above the parapet for the Tories at the 1997 GE.
It looks like an interesting contrast to the usual tendency of public figures and pundits to move to the right as they get older.

Shit dude. Phew indeed.
Curious as to the etymology of 'phew' I looked it up. I'd assumed it came from The Beano but apparently people have been saying 'phew' for 500 years.

Are you sure that wasn't two changes? Her Twitter posts seem to veer wildly between attacking Michelle Mone and showing off her ridiculously huge plastic tits. Not in the flesh but in revealing costumes. Nothing like growing old with dignity.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Tue 06 Dec, 2022 11:04 pm Yeah, must admit I have noticed a bit of a change with her as well.

Should I go on yet another late night rant about how Starmer's Labour are a pointless waste of everyone's time?
Nah, you've heard it all before.
AK keeps trying to reassure us that by saying one thing Labour means another. We should have faith and read between the lines to find the secret message contained in what they're not saying.
This seems like a load of sub Da Vinci Code crap to me.
All I know is Starmer is arguing against single market access and voting reform.
In which case Labour can go fuck themselves.
