The satraps governing the Regions will be allowed to occasionally visit London Centre, bringing suitable gifts of course .

Lea Ypi is a professor in political theory in the government department at the London School of EconomicsWe are told that Starmer’s government is pragmatic and interested in what works. But how can a “solution” that makes no logical sense from a political, legal and economic point of view still be considered “pragmatic”?
Perhaps there is only one plausible answer: propaganda. Labour knows it sits on a precarious majority, threatened by far-right politicians who scream about the danger of migration. Labour clearly thinks it can send a message to the most right-leaning voters in its coalition that it too is tough on migrants. In doing this, it takes its liberal and leftwing supporters for granted. They may suspend their principles and forgive the rhetoric for a time. But the political, legal and economic contradictions will remain. And if the plans go forward, they’ll start to wonder what kind of pragmatism they are supporting.

So, anything that affects those at the top is being removed or watered down?
Re: Monday 7th of October 2024
Masterful. Can't wait to be told this is all actually fine and these are the only choices possible
Re: Monday 7th of October 2024
Anyone else think we might as well left the Tories in? At least they don't pretend they aren't cunts.
Re: Monday 7th of October 2024
Fucking hell, we're so lucky that someone who actually wanted to fix things didn't get into power

Ah, people falling for Wickham's nonsense because they *want* to believe it. What a surprise.
Like nearly all the budget rumours, it is all unevidenced hearsay - if not actually made up.
Some of us will actually wait until October 30th, naive fools that we are.

It's almost sweet that you still think they're going to do anything other than has been done for the last 15 years. That there will be any public investment in infrastructure and services, that doesn't also come with a HUGE chunk of private equity involved.
I mean we know who's been handing out the bungs.

You don't have to like Starmer or think his government are dyed in the wool lefties to see that the above rumours simply make no political sense.
They are going to have to offer *something* to keep enough leftish voters on side given the more general political environment.
I suspect we could be in for a few surprises, but let's just wait and see.

Watching ITVs coverage of the last year in Gaza. I do appreciate the amount of time they’ve dedicated to the utter destruction visited on Gaza and the people there. The fact that they keep destroying hospitals and killing children.
Although the voices of British Jews opposing what is happening in Gaza are conspicuous by their absence.

Still in hospital. Gonna be here a while yet.
I've been taken off anti-seizure meds, as I don't need them and there might be side effects.
The cannula was taken out of my foot this morning, so the only tube left is the catheter.
My physio this afternoon was impressed with the increase in the range of movement in my arms & shoulders.
I'm still waiting for the medical clearance to be put on the list for inpatient rehab.

Happened twice , once in the hospital and again in the rehab place, each time in the middle of the night and each time what must have been the most ravishing nurse in the place was on duty
(the least of my concerns at the time )
Good luck with the physio !
