"" John O’Brien, secretary to the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse, told the Commons home affairs committee that the biggest problem with the public inquiry system is the absence of any mechanism to ensure inquiry recommendations are implemented. ""
Jay is furious but Musk Tice & Co have already passed on to the next incitement
Tice and other lice constantly calling for more inquiries, but ... as we see they contribute very little to solving problems, and use up judicial time that would be better employed elsewhere ?

Re: Tuesday 21st January 2025
Prime example here -- so very satisfying to be brave and have another bloody expensive inquiry, but why not take what everyone expects to come out of it , and er legislate ?
PS the UK record on Regulators is already virtually at rock bottom, so how to fix that is the question ...

Killer thoughts here from Polly on Reform --
"" Why would Labour venture into this quicksand? Because FPTP exposes the country to a minority takeover. The reason the right have governed for most of my life is because the voting system empowered them over a larger but divided left. It’s notable that even Reform, which railed against an elite conspiracy that gave its 4 million voters just five MPs, has fallen silent on PR. No Reform MP has joined the all-party parliamentary group for fair elections. The word is that they now think they could win under FPTP: either by ousting enough Conservative MPs or by capturing the Tory party from the sidelines.
If Starmer sincerely means to put “country before party”, he should set up a commission on the democratic deficit to win public backing for change, and do it by the next election. Otherwise, he will leave office with the same regret as Trudeau. It is time to look across the Channel, look across the Atlantic, and shore up Britain’s democratic defences.""

as for TikTok --
"" At the end of July, the destructive #it'snotmyukraine was among the three most popular hashtags on the TikTok Creative Center website. The numbers were impressive: 41,000 posts in a week and 10 million views — incredible results for a hashtag that didn't exist a month ago.
Imagine our surprise when a search on the platform didn't turn up any authentic profiles creating content on the topic. That's how our investigation began. ""

Not giving a running commentary on every single idiocy Trump and Musk come up with is understandable tbh.
Would they even have time for anything else otherwise?
What the government could and should be doing is moving to non-toxic social media platforms, and encouraging others to do the same.

Actually, think commenting on the owner of a major digital media network, who recently attacked the UK government and Starmer over "rape gangs", throwing seig heils is actually pretty fair game.AnatolyKasparov wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 3:48 pm Not giving a running commentary on every single idiocy Trump and Musk come up with is understandable tbh.

Re: Tuesday 21st January 2025
Starmer previously repudiated his comments on that, Jess Phillips and other matters. I presume nothing has changed just because Trump is now POTUS.
Again, it is going to be a very long four years - it is long enough already - if our government has to micro-manage every brain fart from over the pond.

Re: Tuesday 21st January 2025
What I'm taking from this is, you're perfectly sanguine with a close confident of the President of the United States throwing nazi salutes. That's awfully big of you.

Re: Tuesday 21st January 2025
You've probably already read this but as a someone with a degree in Classics there's no such thing as a 'Roman salute'.
Ironically the Nazi salute (which is undoubtedly what Musk performed) was an invention which evolved through various American and Italian fascist films until it was accepted by the Third Reich despite their pride that Germany had never been conquered by the Romans.
Germany of course didn't exist as a country until 1871, it was the Holy Roman Empire before Napoleon put an end to that nonsense.
And Charlemagne was Belgian.
Sieg heil!
