On that at least, I agree with you. Though this rather strange intolerance towards people who change their minds isn't confined to the hard left tbf.
Shame you didn't do the QT review tonight, it might have been (even) more interesting than usual.

Re: Wednesday 19th March 2025
My GP buys the paper to read with his coffee before work and then puts it in the waiting room.
There was quite a detailed article on Page2 on Labour's austerity drive against the vulnerable .
Not really big enough to be seen from space, but big enough to be noted on the continent. They ...

Re: Tuesday 18th March 2025
Genuine question, do you think *all* of the recent big increase in sickness benefits is genuine. Or is it partly "gaming the system"?
Come off it AK, there'll always be a few people gaming the system, whatever the system is, and we know that there are far fewer gaming the benefits system ...

What? It's much much worse than was predicted. How is stripping 2 million people of their sickness/disability benefits in any way 'less good' ? You blithely mention a bloodbath when this will undoubtedly cost people their lives. This isn't a game. It's real life, my life, and yet you come on ...

The package contains some good things and some less good, as expected. But is still some way from the bloodbath gleefully predicted by the media.

You would never guess from the above posts that Universal Credit is being increased by more than inflation, to take just one thing.

Good morning.
Emma Reynolds

We’ll set out further details, but the severely disabled and the most vulnerable will always get support, and there will always be a safety net.

To be fair to Miss 4.5% on this occasion, we all know it isn't her driving these "demands" even if she doesn't overly disagree with them.
This is, of course, primarily a product of HM Treasury.

Remember what I said about Streeting the other day.
Unless the party completely abolishes internal democracy, there is no way he gets to be the next Labour leader against any remotely credible opponent.
Stuff like this only makes that more certain still.

But yes, ministers should be careful about all this after what happened in the autumn.

Well as I said there is now at least one media report that they aren't "ploughing on regardless" at all. Not a reliable source I would be the first to admit, but still. We will have much more certainty a fortnight from now - if you turn out broadly correct I will readily admit as much.

That the Tories "never did this sort of thing". You could barely move for stories in their captive press berating "scroungers" in the coalition years.
And they proposed stuff much harsher than what they ultimately implemented. Whether that has any relevance to now, we shall see in due course - but ...

No, Labour aren't going to cut benefits. It's all just been made up by the media. I mean, just listen to Reeves, she's fully behind making sure disabled people are fully funded & supported...oh
Well if you believe the Telegraph (I know, but still) they aren't going to cut PIP at any rate.

There is football and I'm meant to getting a new TV delivered sometime in the next couple of hours so we'll see.

The football was actually worth watching.

Because the usual practice with this sort of thing is to say "we're not commenting on leaks".
All governments basically take that line, because once you start doing so there is a danger that you never stop.

But as for one of your posts froggers, that Labour members should not PUBLICLY advocate voting for another party is one of its most basic and non-negotiable rules - and has been enforced pretty strictly under *all* leaderships. Remember the (largely confected) fuss when A Campbell was kicked ...
