Re: Friday 21st February 2025
Morning
The thermometer says it's warmer, but wet and windily unpleasant all the same .
Macron to see Trump today, will he be kept waiting ?
Starmer will be doing his circus act on Thursday -- riding two horses at once .
Ouch !
On a more optimistic note

Meanwhile, the government is about to agree a young persons movement scheme with the EU.
As ever, let us watch what they actually do rather than anonymous (and often factional) briefings.

It's not many weeks since they were flatly against the young peoples' movement that makes such a difference to the young . I'm wondering if this might be a shift towards Europe as a reaction to the very recent Trump Horrorshow ?AnatolyKasparov wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 3:17 pm Meanwhile, the government is about to agree a young persons movement scheme with the EU.

""In this in-depth analysis, I explore the complex, high-stakes world of the F-35 program and what it means for Europe and its allies. Over the past six years, American allies—and particularly European nations—have invested heavily in the 5th-generation F-35 Lightning II. With an estimated total value exceeding a trillion dollars to the US economy and generating over $72 billion in tax revenue from hundreds of thousands of jobs, the F-35 has become a cornerstone of US defense sales.
However, with the US president increasingly alienating close allies on a near-daily basis, a critical question looms: What happens if unpredictable foreign policy decisions lead to the disabling of these advanced systems? In this video, I, Tuomas—a former officer in the Finnish Defence Forces—delve into the risks, costs, and strategic challenges associated with the F-35, particularly for our European and Pacific partners. ""
As with Trump's dotty Tariffs this one has fallout he hasn't dreamt of

No matter how distasteful we find Trump and Vance over Europe, they speak a blunt truth
Hole in one, this just had to be ...SJ !

As seen with the monster US arms sales to Europe, the US presence in NATO was also a nice little earner .

Do think that I said before the GE that events would sometimes force them to do stuff they might otherwise be wary of.
