Zoe Williams -- " If I were Volodymyr Zelenskyy, I’d be thinking, either Keir Starmer has a fiendishly intelligent and subtle mind, or he is bananas. "

Anyone who trusts Trump has forgotten that he mused abut invading Canada Greenland and Mexico and is currently destroying the US Federal infrastructure, and from one day to the next will impose 25% tariffs, or NOT ! --
Assuming conventional military stalemate, Vlad would be delighted to continue his successful destabilisation strategy on the propaganda and sabotage fronts .

" US backing" belonged in the Cold War when NATO had large armies and even (really) 'tactical' nukes, right down to 155mm artillery shells , and people were not pretending ! Today, without going nuclear, the US could knock out RU missile launching sites etc, but only if Trump felt like it ..."" Here’s the kicker: “this effort must have US backing”.
Well, OK, but who on earth would assume that backing? And what would it cost? Do we have to watch Zelenskyy get beaten up live on air, for the US to fall in with the crowd but still feel like it won?""

He did get into a bit of bother about this in the closing stages of last year's GE campaign. It is a definite bruise and others should keep on punching it.

There were plenty of people like Trump now in 1940 USA - they were called isolationists.

The hell is Starmer banging on about?
How is that in ANY way a sane interpretation of recent events?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9deq4ypx57oSir Keir Starmer has told MPs that US President Donald Trump's commitment to achieving peace in Ukraine is "sincere".
The prime minister said Europe would have to do "the heavy lifting" as part of a peace deal but reiterated that a peacekeeping force would need "strong US backing".
As Sir Keir was speaking in the House of Commons, Trump posted on social media: "Europe... stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the US – probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?"
He also accused Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky of not wanting peace adding: "America will not put up with it for much longer."

Telling the leader of a country being invaded, that he doesn't want peace doesn't seem very diplomatic.
I guess I'm just not sensible & grown-up enough to understand.
