Hence my concerns about the bemoanment of paying a few pounds via CT increases. What do we do,wait for a change in Government or continue to bemoan, making it less likely Councils will use that method to raise revenue?I'll leave it there.
Re: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March 2018
The current council tax increases being levied on those less well-off is spent on the Tory PCC's private stylist and not on social care provisionHindleA wrote:Hence my concerns about the bemoanment of paying a few pounds via CT increases. What do we do,wait for a change in Government or continue to bemoan, making it less likely Councils will use that method to raise revenue?I'll leave it there.
How much clearer do you need this?
I can't afford to volunteer all my time fixing Tory-caused destitution and decimation

95% of all local authorities have increased council tax
Re: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March 2018
Less likely to use that avenue of revenue generation? No. Tory government have seen to it those with little will pay for tax breaks given to those with more than they can use in a lifetime

From the same article“And I regret to say that the problem with the supply of affordable housing in England is much, much, much larger than Scotland. I find it fascinating that there is no private-sector rental used at all to place people up here – it’s all local authority and housing association, because you have supply.”

Re: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March 2018
The thing about having a Tory government is that it's not a Labour government. Depending upon people to rock up and supply everything a Tory government has evaporated isn't a reasonable expectation.

Minimally, even that bemoaned,it was alloweable for a.specific reason. The question as to how to attend,in the meantime was left unanswered.Definately end.Enlightened self interest probably a longer or fruitless wait,it seems.

John McDonnell has been sharing this slide, which shows just how bad the Tories continuing austerity is going to be.
In this model, the poorest are going to be truly hammered, whereas the richest will actually gain.

Andria Zafirakou wins $1m as she is named world's best teacher for work at school in one of UK's most deprived areas
Ms Zafirakou, accepting her award, said: “The community where I teach in Brent is beautifully diverse and indeed is one of the most multicultural communities in the world.”
She added: “It is also a community where many of our students unfortunately live in challenging circumstances. They have tough lives.
“What is amazing, is whatever issues they are having at home, whatever is missing from their life or causing them pain, our school is theirs.

Couldn't abide Mary Hopkin. Promoted and signed by the Beatles (Apple) if I remember aright. Inexplicable.

I love that Pearl & Dean music.
I've noticed over the years that, probably coincidentally, the same bombastic style is found in the wonderful 'Water No Get Enemy' by Fela Kuti

They both put me in mind of city-scapes\traffic\black cabs (not the vocals, obviously). Probably the blaring of the horns (instrument-wise). Quite exciting.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:I love that Pearl & Dean music.

Re: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March 2018
Anyway so it looks like the Russian state has, in all probability, used a neurotoxin ('military grade' no less, as opposed to the nice civilian neurotoxins) on British soil.
But we have absolutely no hard evidence of the culpability of Putin or his cronies, it's all circumstantial.
So should we:
A: Use what evidence we have to build a strong case using all agencies and methods at our disposal?
B: Shout 'The Russians did it' at the top of our voices and hope for the best?
Nobody could accuse me of being a Corbynista but it looks to me like he's opting for 'A', which to any outside observer would seem the sane option and yet he's taking an absolute kicking for it. And this will always happen when reason is faced with febrile patriotism unless a populace is still reeling from the effects of the last war caused by febrile patriotism. I admit I sometimes plumb the depths of Radio 5 and it was actually quite terrifying hearing the sheer number of morons (sorry, members of the public) a couple of days ago advocating some kind of war with Russia. I mean this is the kind of idiocy that could irradiate the whole fucking planet, all life could be eradicated because Bill from fucking Clacton on sea is incensed after reading his Daily Mail.
And the Tories are stoking it up for their own grubby political gain.
The Drake equation gives a guess as to how many intelligent species may be out there in our galaxy. The final part of which is 'L, the length of time over which such civilizations release detectable signals'. So far for us that's been just over a century. The average lifetime of ancient civilisations was about 350 years. I very much doubt we'll get anywhere near that.
