Re: Tuesday 29th January 2019
I think it's rubbish that Theresa May has re-united the Conservative Party.
When she fails (as she will) to get a "new" agreement, the likes of the ERG will just use it to justify their existence and will blame both her but even more, blame the EU.

Rumour is that 15 Labour MPs voted with the Government on Cooper.
Enough to reverse the result.

Laura K calls Corbyn's agreement to talks with May a "U-turn".

Re: Tuesday 29th January 2019
It's also just expressing a preference, easy for May to disregard. Cooper's amendment was setting up the opportunity for parliament to legislate to direct May to take specific action to avoid no deal, which would have been difficult for her to dodge.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:People did say that she might get hers through precisely because it was uncomplicated.

The Brady amendment passing moves us towards a Brexit that is harder in nature than May's agreement and further away from the closer ties to the EU favoured by many in opposition. So all in all not a good day.

It certainly gives the "Brexiters" the upper hand - and as they, and a lot of others will see it, the moral highground. Theresa May is either devoid of any feel for the way things work (and she's survived too long for that to be the case) or she is not (nor has she ever been) at heart as "Remain" as popular myth would have it.Willow904 wrote:It's also just expressing a preference, easy for May to disregard. Although the only way to comply with the Brady amendment is be in a customs union or more!PorFavor wrote:It certainly gives the "Brexiters" the upper hand - and as they, and a lot of others will see it, the moral highground.
