Morning all.
Important thread on the investigation of that contract for masks that were incapable of being used.

I doubt that the TPA or others who fume about wasting public money will be interested though - they never are where public money is being funnelled into private hands - the more the better for them.

If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

A "free for all" in property development might be highly interesting, in that NIMBYism has been a significant prop for Tory support in recent years.

The good news from here is that 'er indoors is being allowed back to work after working from home for the last few weeks.
She'll be on the help lines for now but it's a start. I said it'll be odd not having her around as we've both been at home for the past nearly 5 months.
What I need is our local library and heritage centre to reopen but that's not likely for another couple of months.

Is that so? Most libraries in these parts have already opened or will be doing so in the coming month.

It's not really the library bit that I'm after but the heritage centre with all of the archives - that's the bit that's still close although I;m not actually sure why since others of a similar nature e.g. Essex Record Office are back open.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Ah right - IIRC the main archive centre locally (in Barrow) is still appointment only.

Hmmm...Leeds Covid 19 cases tripled in a week with clusters in Kirkstall and Harehills (one of which I happen to live in).
https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/ ... es-2935272
That's not good. Still well below Bradford/Calderdale levels but heading in entirely the wrong direction.
Plenty of 'BAME' folks for Tories to blame in Harehills, but not in Kirkstall, it's mainly trendy sorts who don't have the money to live in Chapel Allerton.

0300 numbers aren't even free, you're fine if you've got enough minutes on your mobile but if you've run out you'll be charged a local rate depending on your supplier, O2 for example charge 35p a minute. It really does boggle the mind that they didn't use an 0800 freephone number. Imagine thinking it's ok to charge people to ring a 'world beating' track and trace service under any circumstance? Even the DWP stopped doing doing that kind of shit.frog222 wrote:Who's been using 0300 numbers then?

Race to the bottom: reform to planning system in England could be catastrophic
All-purpose quote really, you could replace 'planning revolution' with 'universal credit', for example. The proposed “planning revolution” bears all of the signs of policy advisers who don’t actually understand the complexity of the system they are so keen to destroy.

Re: Thursday 6th August 2020
About 300 metres from my parent's house on a river estuary is a brownfield site (it used to be part of the docks with some decrepit old warehouses) which was bought by Duncan Davidson of Persimmon fame who decided he was going to build a 5 storey block of flats right on the river's edge. This would have blocked the views of all the houses behind it and loomed over everything else for miles. Now Duncan is a man with deep pockets which he's used to buy up half of Northumberland and turn it into grouse moors and the council were only too happy to facilitate him in his wishes when it came to this latest obscenity. But the local people weren't. They fought tooth and nail through the planning process and eventually won a victory. Now it will only be 3 storey's high. Under Jenrick's scheme, with it being a brownfield site, they'd have had no say at all.
And this isn't nimbyism, he's already built a smaller block of flats round the corner and even the ones at the back without a view of the estuary cost £100,000, for a one bedroom flat, in Northumberland.
Mr Davidson and Persimmon are who Robert Jenrick serves. Not the likes of us.

Not that I appreciate the poetry of Mr Whitman, or in fact any poetry.
I envy those who do. It seems a nice thing to enjoy.
