This is just disgraceful by the Labour leadership.

Re: Thursday 18th August 2022
The most charitable explanation (and this is relatively speaking) is that the leadership don't want to get involved in the vipers nest that is TH politics - which should still be overruled by their duty of care to a sitting MP. Any other plausible reading of their inaction is rather less flattering than that.
Btw still haven't forgotten that total and borderline libellous hatchet job on Begum in Private Eye - Nick "Ratbiter" Cohen, was it?

Re: Thursday 18th August 2022
Talking about treating people like shit.
You may remember my mum has Alzheimer's and was moved into a Nursing home recently after a spell in hospital. After an initial assessment my dad was told she had to go into a nursing home and not the residential care home closer to him because she required 24 hour nursing care. Yesterday he took part in a further assessment to see if she was elgible for NHS Continuing Healthcare (which would pay for her care) and she was turned down flat. According to a panel of NHS clinicians a woman who has severe cognitive impairment, is totally incontinent, can't feed herself and who can't even sit up, never mind stand, requires no nursing care at all and therefore will receive no funding whatsoever.
Ultimately it's a tick box exercise where various health criteria are graded and if enough are graded severe then Continuing Healthcare is granted. So for example according to the psychiatrist on the panel my mother was graded 'moderate' for cognitive impairment. This is a woman who has no idea where she is, who can't remember who anyone is (including herself) and calls everyone by the name of the next door neighbour's dead dog. I haven't heard her say a single coherent word in at least five years. If she's only moderately impaired I'd hate to see what a severe case looks like.
Honestly I'm furious about this. I understand that the NHS has limited resources but for the love of god please don't treat us like we're idiots and gaslight us about our own sick family members in order to save money. Because that's what this is about.
I know my dad doesn't have it in him to appeal this but I fucking do.

A certain Mr Hindle warned me about this when my mother was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He'd been through the same process with his wife (for different medical reasons) and had spent years fighting tooth and nail for the care she was entitled to. I rarely saw him angry but the way they were treated by the NHS had him spitting feathers. So far it's going exactly as he predicted.

Re: Thursday 18th August 2022
Anyway while making a BLT sandwich today I was putting the lettuce leaves in the sandwich when I detected movement. Upon closer inspection there was a wasp* crawling around in there. I admit I let out a small startled noise that didn't sound like a shriek at all before realising it had been in the fridge so would take quite a while to warm up so I could remove it at my leisure. I told this to someone else earlier and what they were most shocked by was I don't wash my lettuce leaves before eating them. It's something that's never occurred to me.
*It was one of those solitary wasps not your usual yellow and black things, this one was black with red legs.

(Even Bert).
Re: Thursday 18th August 2022
I've always thought that Chaka Khan (and devotees) was up herself. But I like that particular song. Annoyingly, there's always one, isn't there?

I mean it's all subjective isn't it? One man's shit is another man's treasure. Or woman's. Sorry.
