I can't see the full story but this bit caught my eye.
Ah... those would be the 'big expensive homes' that councils can't fill because nobody wants to pay the big expensive Bedroom Tax?Under plans to be announced next month, the Conservatives are also set to order councils to sell off big expensive council houses to pay for a larger number of cheaper homes.
Have a big family? Tough, no social housing for you.
I'd like "big expensive homes" to bed defined first, a three bedroom in London could come under that.

This, and all of the issues around these pension plans, needs to be said much more and much louder. The tories just jerk off the 'we trust people with their money' response, but the entire fucking point of pensions is that people can't be trusted to be responsible enough with retirement income because they will always fuck it up and you can only make it work by forcing people into a 'responsible' hands-off approach to their own stuff.51A wrote:You know no-one will tell us where the benefits cuts will fall? There must be well over Gideon's £30 billion there.
No other explanation.
There is good, positive and productive work to be done stopping the shills from the city bleeding our savings dry over the years and offering fuck all at the end of it but Osborne's plans just involved giving an addict the key to the medicine cupboard.
Edited to add - I appear to have got a tad annoyed whilst typing that. No apology.

There's also the VAT rise which will reduce the amount of cuts. And of course he'll go over budget anyway like he did this time.51A wrote:You know no-one will tell us where the benefits cuts will fall? Good morning.
I doff my cap in the direction of Ephe, 14 years, no small achievement. Hope the cake was plentiful and tasty. And I doff my cap in the direction of utopiandreams too.
I don't doff my cap in the direction of Mr Amin, fancy being stung by 'Tommy Robinson', that redefines the word stupidity. DHP et al, I don't think this is the Mail coming out for UKIP (the Telegraph have that one covered) simply them doing their trademark "all Muslims are untrustworthy" number; the fact he is a Tory may well have been inconvenient, but incidental to their main narrative.
Interestingly the hedge fund Labour donor story really gained little traction, despite the best efforts of the perpetually thirsty wotsisname and Mr Shapps-Green; hard to whip the unwashed masses into a state of righteous indignation when you're having to fight so many of your own colleagues shooting themselves in the foot.

Discourage the Scots from what? Is it not the purpose of all political campaigns to discourage the electorate from voting for the opposition, while encouraging them to vote for your party?51A wrote:I don't think it's useful to discourage the Scots. On they whole they are socialist, it might take some a while to come back to Labour but I don't think it's useful right now to shout at those that wanted independence. Can't blame them for wanting that, a quiet word would be much better. It's easy for those who live in England (as I did most of my life) to think it is the UK, it's not, you know.Eric_WLothian wrote:Ed Miliband unveils offensive linking SNP to Torieshttp://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/t ... -1-3725108The dossier, which is to be sent to households as a leaflet, contains an analysis of voting by the House of Commons library showing that, between 2001 and 2005, when the SNP and Tories both voted they went into the same division lobby 64 per cent of the time. The figure increased between 2005 and 2010, the period of the last Labour government, when the Tories and SNP voted together 71 per cent of the time.
Crucially, the numbers are higher for Budget and finance votes with the SNP voting with the Tories 68 per cent of the time 2001 to 2005 and 88 per cent between 2005 and 2010.
I would question your premise that Scotland is predominantly socialist. Pre-Thatcher, Scotland returned around 20 Tory MPs (peaking at 30+ in the 50s). Don't forget that the country is largely rural - traditional Tory territory. The collapse of the Tories roughly coincided with the rise of the Liberals, with Labour continuing to hold around 40 seats, mainly in the cities. The SNP have only once (1974) returned more than 7 MPs.
I don't think anybody is shouting at the minority who want independence - it's not even mentioned in the article. What the campaign is doing is debunking the myth that the SNP are in some way a socialist party.
As for it not being the UK - 55% of Scottish voters want it to be!

I was listening to LBC 25-30 minutes ago as I walked back home and felt like punching the air in celebration as one of the callers ripped to shreds every argument put to her about the so-called benefits of selling off social housing. They kept trying to throw in Bob Crow every now and again as a deflection but she was having none of it. She even mentioned how councils are in the stupid position of having to rent back at inflated prices properties they've just been forced to sell and that the taxpayer is footing the extra bill at both ends with a taxpayer subsidy on buying it and a taxpayer subsidy on renting it via increased housing benefit costs.
Edit: infalted prices? Stupid fat fingers.

Interesting Sunday Times article about how Osborne is 'doing a Gordon Brown' as right-wngers love to keep mentioning and raiding people's pensions by almost halving the threshold beyond which they have to pay a 55% tax on their pension.
Osborne’s pension raid will penalise the prudent
Even workers earning the minimum wage could build up savings big enough to be caught by chancellor’s new tax

Thanks to all for the nice comments on my sober birthday.

Re: Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd March 2015 -
The Telegraph has an article which says IDS claims he has saved £1 Billion for a grateful nation through the bedroom tax.
Do you believe him? I don't.
The original plan was to save £500 Million - that was found to be very unlikely, especially when the costs of the DHP was taken into consideration; plus the fact that the private sector rents paid for by HB/LHA by those forced to move are higher.
There are many complex reasons why the HB bill has gone up by a billion a year every year since 2010 - but a proportion, however small, may well be higher rents having to be paid by HB for people who have moved to the private sector.
Of course, some people pay their bedroom tax and just have less to live on; so it's possible there are some savings. But a billion?

Trident again It's an SNP red line. It's not an SNP red line... They're like the LibDems - their principles sway in the political breeze. The former first minister said the party would demand the scrapping of Trident as the price of entering a “confidence and supply” agreement with Ed Miliband.
But he said the “more likely” situation would be Labour and the SNP working together on a vote-by-vote basis - including detailed negotiations about Budget packages.
Of course, without an agreement, the SNP MPs can vote with whatever party they want, which could be interesting!
As to not being the party leader, all I can say is 'who is pulling the strings?'

Edited to add evidence of LibDem principles and political breezes:
http://www.scotsman.com/news/uk/uk-may- ... -1-3725319Former Lib Dem leader Lord Wallace, who is currently serving as Westminster’s legal adviser on Scotland, believes that a future government would agree to another referendum being underpinned by statute to give it legitimacy.

Many congratulations Ephie - that's a hard road to tread, and you should feel proud.ephemerid wrote:Hello all.
Just given FTN an utterly shameless plug on Twitter (again)
There is a very good article by Paul Rutherford on the comments - and the reporting of the comments - made by Rachel Reeves the other day.
I agree with everything he says - and he says it much better than I did the other day!
See underoccupied.net
Thanks to all for the nice comments on my sober birthday.
The cake involved salted caramel and was totally scrumptious to the point I could feel it doing me active harm....

Adblock for me too. Saves me from having to view tedious/insulting Tory election propaganda every time I visit Youtube. Love it.pk1 wrote:I didn't see any advert so either adblock is doing a bloody marvellous job or I'm going even more blind than I thought....PorFavor wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBVOHAkRdZ0
I was moved to look for "Hold Your Head Up" (Argent) on Youtube (link above).
Imagine my surprise when I saw the ad\Party Political film-let attached thereto. Do, please, check it out.

Do you remember the whining from the Right when Labour released The Un-credible Shrinking Man? Looks increasingly like a filmic masterpiece in comparison to these Tory attacks.pk1 wrote:I suspect that what you saw was the new Con attack ad:

I certainly do, although that was more by the LDs than the Cons - fully accept it's hard to distinguish between them nowadays.TheGrimSqueaker wrote:

I was however, genuinely speechless when I saw this particular effort.

I think I'm going to be a dissenting voice here. I find it rather alarmingly effective. I can't quite put my finger on who the main (and uninformed, obvs) target audience is meant to be but that could work either way. It may appeal to a lot of people in a scattergun\blunderbuss fashion or a very few. Let's hope for the latter, but I'm not too sure. Sorry for stating the bleedin' obvious but I find it worrying - and ignoring it won't make it go away.pk1 wrote:I certainly do, although that was more by the LDs than the Cons - fully accept it's hard to distinguish between them nowadays.TheGrimSqueaker wrote:

Well, I am thinking WTActualF is that funny little film......well done for finding it, PF. It's hysterical.
I thought about Rod Argent when I heard that "hold your head" thing from Lemon-gob today. He was gorgeous once.....but I digress!
We've had the German autobahn, a little pocket Miliband, the "Don't let them do it again" video removed because it breached copyright ...
The Cons website is a thing of wonder.
How about a fridge magnet bearing the legend "THE ECONOMY - Labour break it, the Conservatives fix it" - yours for £10.
Or - if you share all this marvellous stuff you get "rewards" (doesn't say what they are - a Miliband doll, perhaps?)
These people are bonkers.

My JavaScript plug-ins harmonised in time to critique that creepy Tory advert.
Andrew Rawnsley's latest effort on the G (thank you Spacedone) claims Osborne's popularity ratings form the Tory hope of remaining in government. Jeff is approved by about a third of the population. They're all taking something & it's messing with their cognitive ability.
