Morning
Wasted some life earlier listening to some Toady---an interminable Jenrick was allowed to gp pn, and on .
Admittedly some most odd behaviour from Lammy, the pundits are punditing, bravely.

Back to Real News, EX Covid is OVER, so don't mention it ever again --

Good morning.

I've been busy de-cluttering for my forthcoming house move, but as of yesterday it seems to be off, so I've a bit more time on my hands.
Not re-listing till Spring, despite the Agent's protestations, sadly* he's acting for the house I was going to buy as well so he's losing both fees, ouch.

Some remarkable figures in this thread. 7-8% of the S&P 500, good Lord.

Nice to 'see' you gilsey :-)

IF there's some godawful Crash, house-prices included, well at least you've still got a roof.... and of course the other PROB as to which of the properties will be more in demand (higher priced) post-Crash ...

Pardon my absence, my Dad had a shitty cold so I hung around a few days extra until he was feeling better.

Just need to do some shopping, get some wine in, and I should be good to go for QT this evening.

The Register is a fine journal !

And MS is the sneakiest ever --
Microsoft also sent its January price rise advice to subscribers in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. We’ve asked if the company plans to issue apologies in those nations, too, but haven’t received a response at the time of writing.

The ACCC’s case against Microsoft continues. ®

UPDATED AT 04:25 UTC, November 6th To add news that Microsoft has sent a second email to Australian customers, because its first one contained a broken link that meant users could not choose a new M365 plan.

Well played, Microsoft.

I am now carrying THREE photo ID's everywhere I go 8-) 8-) 8-)

Oldest is the tatty 1987 driving licence which replaced a Luxemburg one from 1977, a rather wild-looking bearded bloke, definitely suspect .

Next is my Carte de Sejour, good till 2031, let's hope I am too

Lastly my new medical ID which arrived today . Basic details include my FREE stroke survivor treatments, which go up to .... 2034 !

Somebody's taking the piss ?

Hope your dad's doing better than this bloke Sky.

Not the most encouraging thing to happen, when the DHSS are giving a press conference, in the Oval Office

I also looked up the figures, see below , unbelievable --

"" In a letter to the chancellor, business leaders said the government must address a crisis in which pension investment in UK-listed companies has fallen from 53% of total equity holdings in 1997 to 4% this year.""

Question Time came tonight from Sunderland (which we shall return to later).

For Labour we had Anna Turley. To be honest despite having just watched the programme it's difficult to remember anything Anna said. Faced with a semi-hostile audience she quickly retreated into herself and began meekly reeling off her talking points as quickly as possible to get them over with. It was painfully obvious she didn't want to be there and it got worse as the evening progressed. As far as I recall she got a couple of smatterings of applause for pointing out the hypocrisy of the Tories when it came to the state of our public sector when discussing the prisoner releases, but mostly she gave the impression that she'd rather be anywhere else.

For the Tories we had Graham Stringer. In total contrast to Anna above Graham had clearly been snorting his Weetabix. He was furious about everything, shouting, gesticulating wildly, putting on quite the show. If you're a Tory at the moment all you've got is bluff and bluster and he seemed to be relishing the challenge. Of course most of it was absolute cobblers, Socialists make everyone poor, the 70's were a nightmare when footballers left the country because of the high taxes (?) but right at the end he redeemed himself quite admirably but I'll save that for later.

For smug Telegraph wankers we had Tim Stanley. Tim has always been a smug, glib contrarian twat who likes to have his cake and eat it and he was at it again tonight. On the one hand Tim was criticising the public for not wanting to pay enough tax to fund a proper prison service, while on the other bemoaning the level of taxes we’re paying, especially the rich. Who according to Tim are the saviours of this country because they invest in businesses while simultaneously being selfish pricks who'll flee the country the minute a tiny fraction of their wealth is taxed for the common good. Perhaps his preoccupation with being snidely amusing blinded him to these contradictions and to be fair he was getting a few laughs. But not at the end when a prescient question was asked about whether certain politicians and their media where whipping up fear of crime. Tim, bravely alone on the panel, told us that our feelings count more than the facts...and faced uncomfortable silence.

For the TUC we had Paul Nowak. Paul was great. His finest moment was coming in after Stanley had been defending the economy the Tories had left claiming it was good. 'Good for who?' he asked. Before reeling off a list of luxury sports car sales figures going through the roof during Covid while the rest of us were fucked. He said a lot more than that and I apologise for not doing him justice but I'm running out of steam and...

The last question this evening was about perceptions of crime.

I had a mate going to Sunderland uni in the early 90's and would regularly go there to go clubbing with him. I've still got a scar on the back of my head from being hit with a brick during one confrontation with the locals. One of our friends was mugged and not satisfied with stealing his money they broke a bottle and made him walk over the broken glass in bare feet. This wasn't just Sunderland. The Nineties were immeasurably more violent than today. I lived in Newcastle at the time and there was a massive riot, shops and cars set on fire. It was fucked up. And yet who on the panel had the balls to contradict the narrative? Step forward Graham Stringer. Despite talking absolute shite previously he pointed out that violent crime had come down massively in the last 25 years, that facts were facts and trumped the feelings of the likes of Tim, and that we should celebrate our diversity and multicultural wonderfulness rather than indulging the voices of the likes of Farage who tell us everything's broken. Which got him the loudest round of applause of the evening.
