Stop asking what the US governments intentions are, they do not exist outside of the personal interests of Donald Trump. They can and will therefore change in a heartbeat as he searches desperately for whatever end gives him the best chance to declare victory.
He has made the national interest entirely personal.
And this is a very dangerous time because Trump has also miscalculated wildly when it comes to American opinion. He assumed that this military intervention would be popular, a chance for him to project strength and have an easy success. The immediate evidence, however, is that this is the least popular US military intervention in history. Only one in four Americans supports these strikes, when normally a President can expect at least 50-60% support for military action at the start from the American people (and usually much more than this). I cannot think of any other decision to start the use military force that comes close to the lack of support for these strikes. It might explain his desperation. Trump started this to have a win for him, but starting it as he has, he has made getting that win very difficult. It could lead him to get desperate.
So the upshot of this, as I tried to say in my Substack Live with Tim Snyder, is that we need to stop “normalizing” what Trump is doing here. This is a president using the awesome power of the US military entirely for selfish reasons, killing Iranians and Americans to feed his own needs.
It is unlikely to end well.

The Bibi War Aim is for himself to stay in power and to that end create as much chaos and suffering in Iran as he can .
Curious that the US did not want to help Ukraine largely from fear that a losing Russia might then split up into warring parts , which would be bad for business (and international peace) , but now they are apparently arming the Iranian Kurds!
Perhaps they might also do the same for the 15 million unhappy Baluchis in the south ?
After all only about half the Iranians are actually Persian .

The MAGA bible breakfast group I met in the Mid West kept trying to tell me the parable of the Good Samaritan wasn't in their bible.
I'd always thought the Christian Evangelicals preferred the Old Testament to the Jesus of the NT. It wasn't so good to hear it confirmed, though.
