Morning, and my first skids on black ice earlier !

A very informative free read this morning --

How Four Years of War Have Remade Society indeed, the same time that in theory the Orange One has to remake American society in the Putin image, tho there are some signs of pushback .

Some religious organizations and members of the Duma, meanwhile, have demanded a ban on the Harry Potter stories on the grounds that they promote black magic; those calls grew louder this summer, when Russia’s Supreme Court declared Satanism a forbidden “international movement” (no such movement exists).
Last year, the LGBT community was deemed an “international extremist movement”—as with Satanism, it doesn’t exist—and acknowledgment of these identities was purged from public discourse. Same-sex couples are barred from marrying or having children.
So many similarities --

Trump's War on Antifa (pronounced Anteefa, with such relish ) is another example of a declared and Powerful imaginary enemy .

The Religious Right in the US has been campaigning for around 50 years against their enemies , the Enlightenment values of democracy , and rationality .

Check out the Moral Majority ...

Just an insane way to report this story.

If people in power really were concerned about women's and children's safety online, they would be queuing up to prosecute Twitter management.

Remember when Labour were meant to be the non-bigoted party?

When I was away over Christmas I was having a stroll along the beach, I think it was last Saturday, when I came across 'Reform' written in wet sand. Obviously I immediately scuffed it out but then I was faced with two questions. First of all what kind of weirdo does that? I've never felt the need to pick up a stick and scrawl my political preferences along the coastline. Second who did it? it was fresh so probably mere minutes old but there were quite a few people out with their dogs. Could it have been the lady with the daft spaniel who I'd just exchanged pleasantries with? Surely not she seemed nice and normal. What about that guy with the border collie further along the beach in front of me? He doesn't look the type but you never know. How about that woman with the two young kids poking about in the rock pools? I mean, maybe? It's impossible to tell.

All I can say for sure is they walk among us.

On a completely different note I just watched the Three Musketeers from '73 . It had literally everyone from the 1970's in it. I had to keep pausing the action and saying; 'hang on is that...?' And the answer was invariably yes. Including Captain Peacock from Are You Being Served briefly fondling Raquel Welch's boobs. Marvellous stuff.

Anyone fancy a wager on how long Starmer is going to last this year? I'm prepared to put my money where my mouth is. 50p says he won't make it until the Summer recess.

As someone who finds himself follically challenged I guess I could take offence at everyone in the replies calling him a bald cunt, but I have no sympathy, he is bald and he is a cunt. These are facts. Other facts would include Kyrgios being entirely cool about the whole thing and not being an arsehole about it unlike this prick. And another would be to compete as a trans athlete I guess he'd have to go through years of hormone therapy at the very least (I don't know the WTA rules on such things).

Over Christmas while sitting up drinking with my Dad we watched a few Father Ted episodes (he has Sky, so 5 million channels but nothing decent on apart from a comedy made 30 years ago). He used to get the Mail on Sunday (while getting the Independent through the week, it's about the quality of the crosswords apparently) and said rag had informed him that Linehan was a victim. I disabused him of that notion. Which let's face it isn't difficult given the ammunition Graham himself has provided.

But yes why would a Labour MP go out of their way to start the year with an anti-trans tweet about something which had nothing to do with trans people? I've always been naturally attracted to the left because on an instinctual level it's about being kind. Or at least it ought to be. However experience (or to be fair the experience of others) has always steered me away from the Labour Party because of dickheads like this guy and the sorry cabal of clueless fuckwits who won their internecine war against the left then were so bereft of ideas they had absolutely nothing to offer in victory rather than more of the same.
