Re: Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd November 2025
Looks like my Mum's finally reaching the end. She stopped eating about a month ago and my Dad rang today saying she's now stopped drinking. It's how a lot of people with Alzheimer’s go, they lose the ability to swallow and end up dying as a result of starvation or dehydration. If she won't drink she'll last a week at most.
It's all very sad and I know how this might sound but for my brother and I it'll be a relief. What's lying in that nursing home bed stopped being our mother a long time ago.
Ironically the next problem will be trying to stop my bereaved father from drinking himself to death which is going to be a challenge.
So I'll be away and busy for the foreseeable future, not least because I volunteered to do the funeral arranging (I'm an old goth, these things come naturally to us).
Take care all and speak to you in a few weeks...or a few days if my mother decides to defy medical science.

Sky, no-one will think worse of you and your brother for feeling relief when your Mum dies.
An end to the uncertainty you've all been living with is a relief in itself, I'm speaking from experience here. I hope the end is peaceful, best wishes to you all.

Sky , that next step --
" Ironically the next problem will be trying to stop my bereaved father from drinking himself to death which is going to be a challenge."
Good luck on that one !
Early May 2012 I was with triathlon daughter when the daughter of a CiF friend called to announce that she hadn't got a clue who I was apart from what was in her dad's phone messages ... and that he had died very suddenly from his CLL leukemia .
I can't remember if I had even one drink, but daughter and son in law were watching me like hawks to see if I raided the bottle ! I remember having a few cigarettes in their garage ...

So much for having a bad reputation, tho not completely justified
Another was after my 2009 stroke when the Avranches hospital neurologist asked if i drank enough water ( silly question, typical of docs how much is enough ? ). I replied " mostly in the form of beer" which was true at the time . A dear friend had a very special pub, when she closed the door and crawled to bed we would keep it going while paying our way. and opening the back door to other habitués . So my consumption was quite regular ...
Any way I was allowed home at weekends and managed to visibly burn the back of my stroke hand on the woodburner .
A few cms long, like cigarette size .
The next week the doc noticed it --- " Hmmm ! "

At the time it looked organised, but we had little idea how far ?refitman wrote: Sun Nov 23, 2025 9:56 am Depressing but not surprising. Anything but someone left wing in charge, eh Morgan?
I'm always reminded of the Hodge and the hundreds of Radical Antisemitic Hateposts she 'suffered',, and then it turned out that perhaps half a dozen had any links to the Labour Left .
Then there is Brickgate when Ms Eagle's constituency office was attacked !
