Was there a UN resolution in favour of invading Venezuela? No? Then it was quite blatantly illegal under international law. And for good reason, because if every madman with a military was allowed to get away with this kind of shit the world would descend into chaos. It's why we're supposed to have the 'rules based system' Starmer has vociferously expressed his admiration for. But of course it was easy to hold to those principles when it was in regard to Putin. Now what does he do when Trump succeeds where Putin failed? Use the excuse that Maduro wasn't the legitimate head of state of Venezuela? It makes not a jot of difference according to the UN charter. Go along with the Trump's ludicrous claim he was acting in self defence because Maduro was head of a narco-trafficking cartel? Again 'waves the UN charter around'. There is no conceivable way this can be defended legally. Even Farage has admitted as much. So it's going to be very interesting to see over the coming days how our spineless worm of a Prime Minister attempts to fudge his way out of this. Because that's what he's going to try to do, at best we'll get a few meaningless platitudes about how it's been 'regretful' before quickly moving on to the 'what's important now' stage. It's got nowhere near -9° in this part of Yorkshire. Allegedly it was supposed to be -3° last night according to the Met office but I walked home in it and didn't feel cold at all. Mind you that could be because some idiot on Vinted sold me a splendid unworn with tags still on winter coat that cost £90 on Amazon for a tenner. I love it, it's all faux military on the outside and nice and fluffy and snuggly on the inside.
I haven't been outside tonight so all I can report is with my gas fire at 3/4 power it's...18° in here. I daren't turn it up to full power. Not just because of the expense, the bedsit I live in may be unusually large but it's still small enough that my glass coffee table is quite close to the fire and I don't want it to explode.
